St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. The Controller is an integral part of the Business Office, responsible for coordinating and assisting in the preparation of financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of historical and future income and expenses, in addition to other special reports that may be needed. The Controller also oversees the functions of accounting, audit, and budgeting. The Controller will, at times, present to the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Controller manages the members of the finance team and Bookstore as well as serves as the primary liaison with our dining services vendor. The Controller reports to the CFO/COO.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Oversee all financial accounting of the school, ensuring accurate and timely financial information
Prepare monthly financial statements, including variance analyses
Supervise student billing and general accounting operations
Review and analyze account reconciliations on a monthly basis
Provide support in the hiring, training of accounting department staff
Ensure timely, accurate payment of debt service
Support the CFO/COO in preparing and monitoring departmental budgets and forecasts, working with other administrators and department heads concerning budget performance
Communicate accounting policies to ensure compliance with such policies
Supervise all incoming cash receipts and deposits
Maintain daily cash balances and review reports from bank daily
Provide weekly cash reports to the CFO/COO
Coordinate and supporting annual audit with external auditors
Oversee the chart of accounts
Participate in Board of Trustees Finance Committee discussions
Prepare all periodic surveys and reports for the school’s trade organizations (e.g. , NAIS, XBSS and AISNE,)
Preparing financial data and reports as requested
Other assignments and/or fiscal management responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer

Written Communication Skills: Effectively communicates broad and very complex business issues.
Problem Solving Skills: Considers a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems. Grasps complexities and perceives relationships among different problems or issues.
The ideal candidate will be a CPA with a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum of 5-7 years experience in non-profit accounting, including managerial experience. The candidate must have experience in a similar role. Independent School experience is a plus.
