Job Summary: The Controller will be responsible for the accounting, cash management, financial reporting and administration for the non-profit corporation which includes membership and related activities for the association and the for-profit corporations which include insurance programs and commissions. This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong accounting and analysis background with a drive for continuous improvement and the streamlining of processes and interested in an exposure to a diversity of legal entities and service lines while maintaining interaction with a wide network.

Primary Areas of Responsibility: • Cash Management activities including: -- Monitor cash, working capital position and forecasted cash needs of various entities. For any deficiencies, perform respective analysis to identify root cause and recommend corrective action. -- Agency member and associate member dues renewals -- Review and approval of disbursements -- Routine review for unusual bank and credit card activity • Monthly close process including: -- Oversight of accounting of all financial statement line items. -- Partnering with cross functional departments to obtain accounting information necessary for timely and accurate reporting. -- Maintenance of respective balance sheet accounts with clear supporting documentation for account balances. Emphasis on bank reconciliations. Investigation of unusual items and aged balances. -- Preparation of financial reporting (Balance Sheet, P&L and Cash Flow) for Board of Directors and associated variance analysis. For significant variances, perform detailed analysis to determine root cause and provide insight on any corrective action required. • Lead Annual Budgeting process through to completion and prepare related reporting for Board of Directors. • Monitoring of investments. • Assist in analysis and selection of annual employee benefit programs. • Assist with annual audits. • Seek opportunities to streamline processes internally and improve support at operational level. • Prepare ad-hoc analysis, queries and reports as required. • Supervise and develop a team of 3 accountants.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and CPA certification, required. • A mix of public accounting and private industry experience required. • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in general ledger accounting including month-end closes with intercompany transactions and allocations, and profit and loss and balance sheet analysis required. • Demonstrates an understanding of accounting transactions and related activity, controls and how they relate to, and are represented in, the company’s financial statements and reports. • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with all levels internally and externally. • Good organizational and prioritization skills; ability to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities. • Knowledge of the following systems and reporting tools, a plus: Great Plains and AIMS General Ledger software, FRx, Crystal and Excel for financial reporting & analysis and Dynamics for Budgets.
