The User Experience, Design & Development team within Communications & Marketing is seeking an experienced full-stack developer/engineer. The position assists in designing, scoping, implementing and supporting creative features that bolster the ability of center stakeholders to effectively use our content management system (CMS), applications and integrated backend services in support of our mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases as causes of human suffering and death. Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Collaborate with UX, design and web development team members in designing, scoping, and implementing new features, applications, and systems for internal and external digital properties
Act as custodian of DevOps strategies and practices for Adobe Experience Manager, our CMS used by more than 500 authors in support of a dozen digital properties
Build and own critical parts of the developer services stack; help developer team deliver high-quality software continuously and predictably
Participate in code reviews, write tests, and propose improvements to code
Investigate areas for improvement in tool choice, software design and patterns for building highly resilient software in a continuous delivery world
Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with distributed teams and interdependent services
Build and evolve engineering processes to optimize developer and team efficiency
Partner with other teams across Fred Hutch to achieve common goals
2-4 years of experience in development, server administration, or similar background
Knowledge and experience with Elasticsearch and the ELK stack, or similar search application
Experience with Apache (Apache Web Server)
Up to date on Current Implementation/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) landscape preferably with GitLab
Experience building and delivering large-scale distributed systems
Experienced in Linux shell and working knowledge of Git
Experience with enterprise-level CMS systems
Experience with SaaS frameworks and building AWS microservices
Experience working in legacy and modern CSS/SCSS, HTML, React and PHP
Experience working in an Agile Development Environment
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience working with Java and the Java build system (Maven etc.)
Experience with Zurb Foundation
Familiarity with monitoring and alerting principles, and tools such as New Relic and Splunk
Experience with Webpack
Experience with AWS Cloud Architecture
Knowledge of Docker
CI/CD experience (Jenkins, GitLab)
Experience with GraphQL
Experience interfacing with a variety of SQL databases including light querying and administration
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; highly collaborative
Exceptional attention to detail and interest in ongoing documentation
Confident under pressure and in meeting tight timelines
Experience and interest in automation throughout the technical stack
