CONTRACT TITLE Research Associate FLSA Exempt CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION The Graduate Center, CUNY is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at The City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest urban public university. With over 35 doctoral and master's programs of the highest caliber, the Graduate Center fosters pioneering research and scholarship in the arts and sciences and prepares students for careers in universities and the private, nonprofit, and government sectors. The Graduate Center's commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences. The Graduate Center (GC) benefits from highly ambitious and diverse students and alumni—who in turn teach hundreds of thousands of undergraduates every year. Through its public programs, the Graduate Center enhances New York City's intellectual and cultural life. The Graduate Center's Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), founded in 2015, creates and connects opportunities for GC students to grow as educators and scholars within the nation's largest public urban university system. The TLC prepares new college teachers for their entry into the classroom, guides developing teachers as they refine their practices, and helps experienced teachers think through how to best apply what they've learned in the next stages of their careers, whether those careers be inside or outside the classroom. The Research Associate/Post-doctoral Fellow will extend the Center's reach by developing a curriculum to help STEM educators more effectively teach and communicate within and beyond their fields. Outreach and training will especially emphasize methods and strategies for improving access and outcomes for students from CUNY populations that are underrepresented in STEM majors and careers. The Research Associate will publish their own scholarly work while beginning new STEM-related research projects at the TLC, and will also actively seek grants. S/he will develop additional programs or special projects related to their research interests, and promote connections between teaching and research activity across CUNY. The position will work closely with TLC staff on TLC initiatives including but not limited to the Teach@CUNY Handbook, the Teach@CUNY Institutes, the TLC's workshop series, Focused Inquiry Groups, and Visible Pedagogy (the TLC's weblog). This position is an annual appointment with funding for two (2) years, with possibility of extension. The position will begin in Fall 2021 and report to the TLC Director.
