Plymouth Housing is a non-profit organization which builds and operates apartment buildings for very low-income individuals, and provides housing case management services for the residents, most of whom are formerly homeless.
Our Finance Department tracks the accounting for apartment building operations, commercial tenants, construction or renovation of buildings, social service grants, payee services, fundraising and the overall Plymouth organization. The Accounting Manager will be assigned responsibility for some organizational accounting processes, such as accounts receivable/accounts payable or payroll, and will supervise a team of accountants in the performance of their duties. This position is also responsible for other accounting tasks, as assigned, such as government grant accounting or real estate development accounting.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Supervise, train and mentor Finance Department employees, as assigned.
Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of work performed in assigned areas of responsibility. This includes:
Performing periodic reviews of financial data.
Oversight of reconciliations and investigation of variances.
Maintaining current operating procedures, including appropriate internal controls.
Monitoring regulatory requirements.
Assist with budget development for the agency, as well as the development and monitoring of work plans to accomplish strategic goals.
Prepare financial statements and other reports for management and outside funders.
Work collaboratively with other departments.
Assist with annual audits and tax returns, including reconciliations, adjustments, closing entries and schedule preparation.
Coordinate financial functions to assure that staff members have information needed to carry out organizational priorities and activities.
Assist the Controller in monitoring and reviewing work assignments and group projects.
Cross train with other Finance Department staff as assigned.
Other accounting, financial management, financial analysis and administrative tasks as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
3-5 years of accounting experience with progressively more responsible fiscal, administrative, and leadership duties.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a desire to work in an environment requiring teamwork, effective conflict resolution and respect for others.
Ability to work well with diverse populations.
Commitment to ensuring the financial integrity of the accounting information, and ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion.
Direct experience with budgets, forecasting and financial analysis.
Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Ability to identify and solve problems; ability to recommend proposals for increased efficiency of operations.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage deadlines; manage competing priorities, and maintain high standards for accuracy, productivity, and confidentiality.
Proficient and experienced with accounting software systems, and Microsoft Office applications; particularly Word, Excel and Outlook. Must be able to work efficiently and effectively with customized databases and technology, and conduct internet research, as needed.
Experience accounting for multiple entities and funds.
Effective interpersonal communication skills to coordinate the flow of information to and from staff and management who possess varying degrees of financial expertise.
Ability to quickly perform routine tasks with consistent accuracy and attention to detail.
Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant.
Experience with MIP Accounting software.
Experience with MRI Bostonpost software.
Experience with public funding and nonprofit accounting requirements.
Knowledge of low-income housing development and operations.
