The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy College invites qualified candidates for a full time, multiple year track Assistant professor in the Health Sciences Program in the School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy College beginning Fall 2021.

The focus of this position is on teaching excellence in Health Science at our Bronx and Dobbs Ferry campuses including Science of Nutrition. Experience in integrating innovative approaches to promoting student success and developing an inclusive community both inside and outside the classroom will be given preference. In addition, experience in online teaching will also be given preference.

A willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds is essential. We welcome applications from candidates with strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment.

Mercy College is a nonsectarian, nonprofit New York metropolitan area institution offering over 90 undergraduate and graduate programs. The College has an enrollment of approximately 9000 students from diverse backgrounds across four campuses in Westchester County and New York City. This is an opportunity to join the School of Health and Natural Sciences with 5 accredited graduate health professional programs (communication disorders, occupational therapy, nursing, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies) and undergraduate programs in biology, clinical laboratory science, communication disorders, exercise science, nursing, occupational therapy assistant (AAS degree), and veterinary technology.
Salary and rank are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. -A commitment to and experience in teaching health science courses including Science of Nutrition
-Potential to teach and develop courses in health promotion, health policy, health disparities, social determinants of health, maternal and child health, theories of health behavior or health science research methods preferred.
-Commitment to mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students is required.
-Demonstrated sensitivity to and desire to promote diversity and health
equity.
-Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are required.
- Experience in previous community health work or clinical nutrition and dietetics practice or experience preferred.
-Evidence of active participation in professional associations with an emphasis on community health, health behavior, nutrition, and/or health education preferred
-Experience working collaboratively with faculty from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds is required.
-Strong computer skills required. Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly with BlackBoard is strongly preferred.
-Experience with teleconferencing software, particularly Zoom and BlackBoard Collaborate is strongly preferred.
-Experience teaching online is strongly preferred. Ability to teach at our Bronx campus, and at our Dobbs Ferry campus as needed is required.
- Ability to provide leadership and mentorship to adjunct faculty required
- Ability to supervise student recruitment and admissions activities at the Bronx campus including participation in open houses and accepted student’s days
- Ability to develop community partnerships in the Bronx and secure experiential and service learning opportunities for Health Science students in the Bronx
- Ability to develop course offerings and co-curricular opportunities for Health Science students in the Bronx. Candidates with experience in curriculum development will be given preference.
- Ability to actively participate in college/school, and/or department meetings
- Ability to complete other duties as assigned
-Experience in integrating innovative approaches to promoting student success and developing an inclusive community in the classroom preferred

 

An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D, DrPH, SciD, Ed.D or similar) in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, Health Behavior, or a closely related field (e.g. Nutrition, Maternal & Child Health) is required.

Preferred: Current Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)/Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) credential or Certified in Public Health (CPH) or CHES/MCHES/CPH eligible at the time of appointment OR Registered Dietician (RD) or Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR).

Preferred: Master of Public Health (MPH) degree
