What You'll Do The University of Michigan Law School is seeking to hire a Visiting Clinical Professor to teach in its Community Enterprise Clinic (CEC) during the Fall 2021 semester. Law students enrolled in the CEC provide transactional legal services to nonprofit and community organizations, social enterprises, and neighborhood-based businesses in Detroit and the metro Detroit area. The CEC works to support vibrant, diverse, and sustainable communities and provide creative solutions to the transactional needs of clients to promote racial, social, and economic justice. The CEC represents organizations working to build and sustain neighborhoods in disinvested areas in Detroit and other disinvested urban areas of the region. The Clinic works with both start-up and established clients. New organizations seek assistance in entity formation, governance, tax and regulatory compliance. More established organizations seek the CEC’s assistance to accommodate their organizations’ and programs’ growth: draft and negotiate contract and leases; create worker cooperatives and social enterprises; counsel regarding land use, permits and other regulations; provide tax advice on income-generating activities; advise on employment issues; counsel on risk management; and research and advise on intellectual property issues. The visiting professor will co-teach the seminar component of the clinic and supervise law students on their client matters.
