Community Partnerships Coordinator

Job Summary:

The Center for Social Concern fosters a life-long commitment to active citizenship through education, action, and reflection. Working toward this mission, the CSC strives to support students on the Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins University through engagement opportunities with the Baltimore community. The Community Partnerships Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive outreach plan for the Center for Social Concern that is designed to strengthen relationships with community agency partners, increase civic engagement opportunities for the CSC programs, and provide direct service opportunities within Baltimore City, regionally, and nationally. In addition, the Community Partnerships Coordinator will play a crucial role in engaging and providing training and support to partners and community-based agencies on Hopkins Engage, university’s community engagement platform.  This position will be responsible for consistent attention to community partner needs as well as targeted outreach to engage new partners based on student interest and CSC programming.

This position will be required to work closely with the Associate Director of the CSC as well as additional multi-disciplinary entities to promote the culture of service within the University and through external relations. The Community Partnerships Coordinator will be required to travel locally, regionally, nationally, and potentially internationally.  The incumbent will work collaboratively with other University and Student Affairs departments to identify and coordinate programs, service days, and special initiatives.

This position will be required to:

• Strengthen and build CSC’s community partnership process.
• Create content and opportunities to ensure that community partners are providing meaningful and high-quality service projects for student engagement.

• Work in collaboration with the CSC team to ensure volunteer hours are recorded in Hopkins Engage each academic year.
• Collaborate with nonprofit and community-based organizations to ensure partnership opportunities and provide ongoing service and experiential learning opportunities through Hopkins Engage.
• Support University departments and sponsored service projects to increase community partner participation.
• Attend community-based meetings and events.

Additional Duties/Responsibilities

PROGRAMMING –

• Assist with the planning, development and implementation of CSC programs in relation to the connection of community partnerships.
• Provide direct support to the coordination and promotion of annual CSC programs including but not limited to President’s Day of Service, Community Impact Internships Program, In Community Internships, Student Employment, Baltimore First, Tutorial Project, student organizations, and additional community engaged work.
• Responsible for creating, enhancing, and evaluating community partnerships to ensure that all nonprofit organizations who would like to engage with Johns Hopkins University through the CSC are well prepared, follow compliance protocol, and match with student goals for reciprocal / mutual benefit.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS/DATA HOPKINS ENGAGE PLATFORM–

• Identify opportunities to expand the depth and breadth of the organizations providing episodic and long-term service projects to the JHU Homewood community.
• Communicate with organizations at least once twice a semester identifying their needs, opportunities, and evaluating progress.
• Provide consistent support and training of Hopkins Engage.
• Provide annual quantitative data and metrics of partners utilizing JHU volunteers and programming through Hopkins Engage.
• Required to meet partnership goals set by the CSC including implementing plans for increased support and planning with partner organizations, supporting agencies in the MOU process, and reporting to agencies the successes of their relationship with the CSC.

PUBLIC RELATIONS / MARKETING –

• Work closely with the Communications Coordinator to ensure that excellence is portrayed in all external communications.
• Implement marketing methods to create and promote a culture of service on campus and supporting the creation and distribution of an annual report to Community Partners and internal audiences.
• Update content and material on the CSC’s website based on partnership processes and engagement opportunities.  

OTHER –

• Participate as an active member of university committees and cross- functional teams (programming, projects, training, evaluations, and partnerships) to meet the overarching goals of the CSC.
• Serve as an advisor to student organizations, supporting their executive boards in navigating their community service and civic engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

• This staff role requires a bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of three years of experience with community-based organizations
• At least three years of experience directing a program or supporting community-based programming
• Proven success in cultivating genuine partnerships, relationship and coalition building, and fostering collaborative environments
• A collaborative and team-based approach to solutions
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Some community organizing or community engagement experience is preferred
• Superior critical thinking and analytical skills, extremely creative in sourcing solutions to problems
• Self-motivated, goal-oriented, entrepreneurial leader who is an independent worker
• Ability to sustain progress within potentially ambiguous environments
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and volunteer management CRMs

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
