About William James College Founded in 1974, William James College is an independent, non-profit institution and a leader in educating the next generation of mental health professionals to support the growing and diverse needs of the mental health workforce. Integrating field work with academics, the College prepares students for careers as organizational leaders and behavioral health professionals who are committed to helping the underserved, multicultural populations, children and families, and veterans. William James College alumni can be found making an impact in a variety of settings, including schools, the courts, clinical care facilities, hospitals, the community, and the workplace. Position Summary The William James College Office of Marketing and Communications is seeking a writer and content creator to increase public awareness about College programs and initiatives and communicate impact through media relations and outreach activities. The ideal candidate will be a compelling storyteller with the ability to work across multiple channels and connect with a variety of audiences; who actively seeks to understand trends in mental health and behavioral health, psychology, and higher education; and who will work to foster relationships with community members and internal and external stakeholders. Essential Duties Essential responsibilities include: identifying and relaying information about topics of interest related to the College’s mission and creating content that connects the College with conversations about these topics; building relationships with College subject matter experts; promoting stories, events and expertise through multiple channels; contributing news content for the WJC website and to the College’s print magazine, Rapport; and serving as a secondary contact for media outreach and inquiries. The Communications & Media Relations Associate will produce regular reports on communications activities, be a frequent contributor to social media plans, and will work closely with the College’s Marketing and Advancement teams. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required. Special projects and other duties as assigned.
