OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for developing, overseeing and implementing the annual support program of the Arboretum, including the annual fund and other assigned annual support duties.
ANNUAL SUPPORT (70%) â— Strategically develop and implement an overall Annual Support plan for the Arboretum. â— Plan, implement and track all aspects of a comprehensive Annual Fund Campaign, including data analysis, solicitation cycle, and development and delivery of appeals and a communications plan. â— Independently make decisions regarding Annual Fund processes, consulting with the Development Director on major systemic changes. â— Collaborate with major and planned gift officers regarding annual fund solicitation and stewardship of major donors. â— Manage complex software configuration of appeal processes in the Altru database. â— Manage complex software configuration of gift acknowledgement processes in the Altru database. â— Conduct quality checks of all annual fund queries and processes. â— Develop and implement an Annual Support stewardship plan. â— Extend stewardship to encourage increased Annual Fund support, as well as identifying those whose interest may lead to a major or planned gift. â— Consult with the team’s database manager on complex software configurations. â— Consult with gift administration staff on the gift acknowledgement process or specific letters as needed. â— Attend the MLAF Development Committee meetings and provide Annual Support reports and recommendations. â— Manage annual giving events including Give to the Max Day, Giving Tuesday, U of M Community Fund Drive, etc. and recommend whether the Arb should participate in each event. â— Process regular Altru fundraising reports for Annual Fund and Annual Support. â— Plan and execute periodic Trustee Thank-You-Call events. â— Plan and execute Trustee appeal letter-signing events. â— Development of assigned MLAF Annual Report content, including recognition lists and mailing lists. â— Supervise annual fund staff if assigned.

Required â— Bachelor’s degree. â— Four years of experience in fundraising. â— Experience working with donor database software. â— Superior organizational skills with a robust attention to detail. â— Experience managing multiple concurrent projects successfully. â— Demonstration of superb written and interpersonal communication skills. â— Highly collaborative working style, with success working in a team setting.
Preferred â— Experience with annual fund fundraising. â— Experience with multi-channel fundraising, e.g. phone, direct mail, online, social media, personal. â— Experience developing successful annual fund strategies. â— Experience with higher education or nonprofit fundraising. â— Experience working with diverse constituencies. â— Supervisory experience.
