STATUS: Part-Time, 20 hours per week DIVISION: Business Services REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Business Services FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt SUPERVISES: N/A POSITION SUMMARY: The Accounting Specialist - Cashier position is responsible for various accounting and administrative duties in Business Services. This position will act primarily as cashier and will provide additional support for purchasing, accounts receivable, collections and the Business Services staff. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Provide excellent customer service to students, parents, staff and faculty; - Receipt payments to student accounts and all incoming cash to the college (donations, gifts, third party payments, etc.); - Processes the daily sales reports from the Bookstore and Imaging Center and reconciles them to the system; - Reconciles all cash receipt sessions and prepares bank deposits when necessary; - Maintains, disburses and reconciles petty cash daily; - Assists with the College’s collections efforts as the Student Accounts role needs; - Distributes student refunds, reimbursements, and payroll checks; assists with unclaimed property escheatment processes; - Prepares and mails Non-Sufficient Funds notifications when needed to customers; - Rent and distribute locks for College owned lockers; prepare monthly account reconciliations; rotate locks on lockers annually; - Cross-trained in Student Accounts functions; answering invoicing questions and sending monthly statements; - Cross-trained in Purchasing functions; processing purchase requisitions; troubleshooting any purchase order issues, etc; - Perform additional duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: - Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration or related area preferred; or equivalent combination of education and work experience; - Computer literacy; knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with computerized accounting systems preferred; - Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills; - Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities; - Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
