General Descriptions: Responsible for performing independently, tasks of a skilled nature, necessary for the operation, maintenance, repair and remodeling of Center buildings, grounds and equipment. Must be proficient in architectural skills. Additionally, a working knowledge in at least two of the following areas: mechanical, plumbing, electrical, welding, HVAC, building automation, steam and hot water systems or refrigeration would be beneficial.
Responsible for independently performing architectural and/or mechanical work orders necessary for the operation, maintenance, repair and remodeling of Center buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Type of work includes but is not limited to:
Estimating work (time and material), liaising with customers, executing all required paperwork, updating as-built drawings
Work with and/or train apprentices
Builds, repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, keyboard trays, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim
Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions
Replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings
Builds cabinets and other wooden equipment in carpenter shop
Installs items such as window shades, venetian blinds, and curtain rods, wall fans, and door locks for tenants
Minor Painting and drywall work
Individual may also be assigned to work with and/or train apprentices
High School diploma or equivalent
4-6 experience in carpentry, construction, or repair work or completion of at least two years of trade school and two years' experience
Must be proficient in architectural skills. Additionally, a working knowledge in at least two of the following areas: mechanical, plumbing, electrical, welding, HVAC, building automation, steam and hot water systems or refrigeration would be beneficial.
Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Drivers License
Physical skills necessary to climb, bend, stoop, lift and perform tasks utilizing ladders and scaffolds, etc.
Able to lift 50 lbs.
Dependable, on-time and proven good work habits
Good communications skills
Able to work a varied schedule including shift work

Although Fred Hutchinson opened its doors in 1975, its history began about 20 years before that. In 1962 Fred Hutchinson envisioned a center devoted to studying cancer, a disease that took his brother’s life.
