Director of Operations and Campus Planning Hackley School Tarrytown, NY www.hackleyschool.org Overview Hackley School, a K-12 single-campus, independent school in Tarrytown, NY seeks a Director of Operations and Campus Planning starting July 1, 2021. The Director of Operations and Campus Planning reports directly to the Head of School, while supervising the following positions: School Nurse, Director of Buildings and Grounds, Director of Technology, Director of Auxiliary Programs and Director of Food Services. Broadly, these responsibilities include oversight of the physical plant and campus, transportation, environmental sustainability initiatives, capital projects, campus safety and security, food service, school calendar, auxiliary programs, and information technology. The Director of Operations and Campus Planning serves on the Operations Committee and as a member of the Leadership Team. Reporting Structure Specific Responsibilities - Provide strategic and logistical leadership for areas of critical infrastructure, including facilities and maintenance, technology, food service, and auxiliary programs
- Oversee construction projects, serving as liaison for the school with the design / construction team, as well as with governmental entities
- Ensure a high standard of care, maintenance, and improvement for the physical plant and campus grounds supervising the following positions: School Nurse, Director of Buildings and Grounds
- Provide high-level leadership, evaluation, planning, and budget oversight for Building and Grounds Department
- Develop, integrate, and implement environmentally sustainable practices into school operations
- Participate in Operations Committee, partnering with others to identify and troubleshoot short, medium, and long-term operational issues
- Oversee the master calendar and ensure coordination among event sponsors, Food Service, and Buildings and Grounds
- Supervise the Director of Auxiliary Programs, helping to chart strategic direction for summer programs, facilities rentals, and after-school enrichment programs
- Coordinate campus safety and security responses, including supervision of security personnel and crisis response and preparedness
- Oversee the assignment and use of physical space, including faculty housing, offices, classrooms
- Administer the faculty housing process to deploy housing in an equitable and transparent process, balancing the needs of the institution and the individual
- Serve as point person on student transportation to/from school by managing public, private, and faculty bus driving, including MetroPass
- Ensure compliance with mandated reports (e.g., BEDS, HSG, emergency plans, transportation, NYSAIS, NAIS)
- Supervise Infirmary Services, including the relationship between Hackley, the nurse, and the Town of Tarrytown Union Free School District Board of Education
- Oversee duty assignments, scheduling, and space assignments related to the school housing and the Pick-Up Program
- Foster, maintain, and manage relationships with local officials and numerous outside vendors
- Oversee accuracy, consistency, and distribution of documents that directly relate to school operations, calendar, etc. (e.g., Faculty-Staff Handbook, Vade Mecum)
- Serve as staff liaison to the Board of Trustees’ Building and Grounds Committee
- Undertake special projects as assigned by the Head of School
Qualifications and Experience - Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, facility management, business administration, construction management, or a related field strongly preferred; Master’s degree a plus
- A minimum of five years of experience in senior-level facilities management, construction management, or operations positions, preferably within an educational institution or nonprofit organization
- Management experience with significant, high quality capital improvement projects
- Strong record of cultural competence in leading, motivating, developing, and evaluating a large and diverse staff
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with multiple constituencies, such as faculty, administrators, volunteers, parents, students, board members, and contract workers
- An advanced understanding of and the ability to effectively use multiple platforms and applications as part of project management responsibilities
