With general guidance, the Systems Engineer III is expected to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of on-premise and cloud infrastructure systems that support core functions. The SEIII provides operational support for IPAM, authentication, logging, monitoring and alerting, server lifecycle management as well as messaging and collaboration (Microsoft 365), virtualization platform, storage and data protection systems. This person is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all operating systems and infrastructure systems performance to identify, resolve and communicate issues. The SEIII identifies opportunities to develop and implement medium-to-large scale systems. The SEIII will work on complex, non-routine assignments in addition to following tried-and-true standard procedures to keep systems running smoothly. In addition, this person is expected to periodically evaluate existing environments and make recommendations for improvement in partnership with Systems Engineering Leadership. The SEIII is responsible for the evaluation of systems and assisting with determining future needs to create and drive improvements of infrastructure technology, processes and standards. The Systems Engineer III reports to the Systems Engineering Manager (Engineering and Operations). Evening and/or weekend work may occasionally be required. Remote work allowed and may sometimes be required. Responsibilities - Fulfill day-to-day administration tasks associated with maintaining infrastructure systems including monitoring and reporting on usage, capacity and availability.
- Serve as technical lead or as team member for large complex projects.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for mission critical infrastructure systems on a rotating basis.
- Respond to incidents and service outages to restore service interruptions in a timely manner.
- Control and limit access in compliance with security policies and best practices to maintain system integrity.
- Create and maintain current and accurate technical documentation and diagrams.
- Lead and promote the use of and offer improvements for departmental processes such as change management, incident management, and problem management.
- Participate in and present at infrastructure systems Design Reviews.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure systems issues.
- Design, plan, build and lead system and disaster recovery tests.
- Collaborate and participate in the transformation of legacy workflows using cloud-native tooling.
- Train and excel in expertise of specialized technical area(s). Act as a subject matter expert in specialized technical area(s).
- Mentor entry and intermediate level staff.
- Perform complex planned maintenance after-hours / weekends as required.
- Perform analysis, capacity planning and performance planning.
- Collaborate with vendors, contractors and other staff to coordinate system installations and provide quality assurance oversight.

Minimum qualifications - BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field desired; or equivalent work experience.
- 7+ years of system administrator or engineer experience in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities.
- 5+ years of experience supporting 2 or more server operating systems in a large complex heterogenous environment.
- 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise environments preferably building and supporting virtualization platforms such as VMware.
- Advanced skills with server operations systems, such as Microsoft Server or Ubuntu.
- 3+ years of Python or PowerShell scripting experience.
- Intermediate technical knowledge with infrastructure automation tooling including Ansible, Packer, Terraform.
- Working knowledge of source code management and CI / CD platform, preferably GitLab.
- Expert skills administering Microsoft Active Directory; experience with multiple OSes authenticating to AD.
- Working knowledge of log analysis tools such as Splunk and with system performance tracking and reporting tools preferably Prometheus and Grafana.
- Up-to-date knowledge of network protocols, internet standards and client-server communication.
- Intermediate experience with enterprise level virtualization standards, preferably VMware.
- Broad understanding of interdependencies and strong ability to troubleshoot events (such as access rights or performance) across dissimilar platforms.
- Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred qualifications - Advanced understanding of Linux / Unix operations processes and system administration.
- Strong understanding of systems automation.
- Working knowledge of Docker.
- Working technical knowledge of storage and storage protocols (iSCSI, NFS, and CIFS) and one or more Data Protection solutions.
- Strong understanding of Hyperconverged Infrastructure solutions
