Countryside School seeks a visionary educator and skilled administrator as Head of School. Founded in 1992, Countryside is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, independent school, accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), serving 150 students in grades K-8. Guided by its mission of Joy in Learning, Excellence in Education, Countryside provides a challenging and student-centric learning environment. The school is located in Champaign-Urbana, the heart of east central Illinois, and the home of the flagship campus of the University of Illinois.
The Head of School position is a full-time position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The expected start date is July 1, 2021. The main responsibilities of the Head are:
Embody, manifest, and advocate the philosophy and mission of the school by providing leadership in curriculum and educational programming, professional development and mentoring of faculty and staff, and stewardship of resources
Demonstrate knowledge of research on innovation and best practices in K-8 education and a commitment to articulating and implementing those in the independent school setting
Understand, monitor, and address all matters of school climate and culture as they relate to students, staff, and faculty Nurture the respectful spirit and compassionate behavior of the Countryside community
Continue and extend initiatives related to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion
Work collaboratively with the Board in the context of an independent school governance structure
Represent the school with integrity and a positive attitude to all of its constituents, including parents, students, alumni, faculty, staff, external community, and agencies related to government, education, and accreditation
Commitment to the school mission and philosophy
Master’s degree or higher in education or related field
Classroom teaching experience
Evidence of collaborative and hands-on approach to leadership in a school or other setting
Familiarity with operations of independent schools
Experience with K-8 education
Valid teaching/administrative license or credentials
Knowledge of budgeting, advancement, and alumni relations
