The Controller portion of the position is responsible for all accounting processes and procedures related to the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, cash application and control. The Controller is also responsible for maintaining and ensuring adequate system of internal controls throughout the organization. Given how small the team is, the Controller must be willing and able to step in to perform any of the functions of the staff. The Controller portion is very hands on in planning, directing, and monitoring financial and accounting activities for both FXW and the Children at the Crossroads (CATC) foundation.
Finance Essential Job Functions
Manage overall accounting operations of the school and supervise, review, and direct the work of the accounting
Perform monthly financial close and prepare related financial
Review all journal entries and
Oversee student billing/receivables and the collections
Oversee maintenance and control of corporate credit
Manage cash flow reporting and
Assist in establishing the annual budget, provide monthly reporting and provide guidance to principals and department heads on budget preparation and management.
Oversee annual financial audits, for both FXW and (CATC), including preparatory work, assisting auditors with questions, reports, and files as requested, and reviewing final audit report, schedules, and 990 for accuracy.
Prepare capital budget, maintain the school's fixed asset system, and monitor the accounting and control of capital project and fixed asset
Manage the accounting staff including hiring, training, and performance
Understand and facilitate use of computer systems used in accounting and billing operations.
Develop, document and maintain comprehensive accounting and operating procedures, policies and controls.

Qualifications and Skills
Minimum 3-5 years' controller experience or equivalent
Bachelor’s degree required
Strong supervisory skills
Ability to work well with ever changing priorities and or situations
Ability to work well with others both internally and externally
Ability to work independently and multi-task
Excellent organizational, problem solving and oral and written communication skills

Additional Skills and Experience
Extensive demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles
Knowledge of nonprofit entity accounting preferred
In-depth knowledge of latest computerized accounting systems; experience with Veracross preferred
Understanding of and/or exposure to designing and monitoring internal controls
Must comply with all school and Archdiocese of Chicago required background checks and Virtus training
