Texas Career Engagement’s mission is to advance equitable access to professional development, career experiences, opportunities, and success for all UT Austin students. To that end, the program manager for graduate communities will specifically engage with diverse graduate student and postdoctoral scholar populations including graduate students of color, graduate students with disabilities, LGBTQ+ graduate students, and first generation graduate students.
The Program Manager for Graduate Communities provides leadership for collaborative program and resource development to enhance the quality and quantity of personalized professional development services for under-represented graduate students. The incumbent leads relationship management to advance collaborations with graduate student leaders, campus departments, career center offices and the Graduate School to strengthen identity-based professional development and career support. This position also provides individual and group career and professional development advising to cultivate a diverse and empowered graduate community.
Collaborative Program and Resource Development – through collaboration with identity-based graduate student groups and UT offices who work closely with historically under-represented graduate students (e.g. Faculty Innovation Center, Gender and Sexuality Center, Veterans Services, Multicultural Center), the successful candidate will develop a portfolio of programs and resources that serve specific population needs related to career and professional development. This includes building a graduate peer network to conduct outreach, lead programs and develop targeted resources. Topics of particular interest include mentor/eeship development, self-advocacy, leadership, individual development planning, and authentic professionalization.
Provide individual and group career and professional development advising across disciplines – demonstrated understanding and commitment to the unique needs of master’s and doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars. Clear understanding of the hiring landscape and national trends for doctoral students with a deep understanding of academic job hiring in addition to advanced degree hiring in industry, business, government and nonprofit.
Provide leadership to ensure all TCE graduate team programming and resources are inclusive, and oversee team training on specific issues related to diversity and inclusion for advanced degree students (e.g.; neurodiversity, inclusive workshop design and advising best practices). Provide thought leadership and contribute to university, state and national initiatives.
Working closely with the Associate Director of Graduate Employer Education focused specifically on helping employers navigate the campus who are looking for more diverse talent using innovative approaches including integrating experiential learning, storytelling and creativity into employer recruitment strategies.
Master’s in Education, Communication, Sociology, African American/Latinx studies or related field that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of advanced cultural competence. Demonstrated collaborative work experience to create educational programs and content. 2+ years of pedagogical experience, including workshop design and/or teaching in higher education. Demonstrated advising experience in 1:1 or group settings. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. A minimum of 5+ years of experience working in higher education and/or educational settings. Experience working with diverse student populations on issues related to professional development, communication, mentorship, faculty development, and the future of work. Knowledge of the specific career-related needs for master’s and Ph.D.students. Interest in working specifically with graduate students.
Ph.D. in a related field. 3+ years of experience teaching and advising on career and professional development topics with demonstrated expertise working with international and under-represented students. Demonstrated service or thought leadership working with under-represented communities.
Additional Salary Information: $60,000 + depending on qualifications
