Kentucky Country Day School (KCD) seeks a passionate and capable Athletic Director (AD) to lead the School’s robust athletic program. The new AD will report directly to the Head of School and work collaboratively with the Board of Trustees and Administrative Team.
Direct the interscholastic athletic program in accordance with the mission, philosophy, and goals of KCD.
Communicate and oversee the proper implementation of the school’s philosophy regarding athletics that fosters participation, sportsmanship, and a commitment to excellence.
Develop, update, and implement athletic policies and procedures.
Be the spokesperson and representative of KCD to ensure clear and open lines of communication for the school to governing bodies, parents, students, fans, officials, and the general public.
Ensure compliance with KHSAA requirements and guidelines and serve as the School’s designated administrative representative to the Association.
Maintain high standards for the program through recruitment, evaluation, and professional development of coaches and staff.
Determine annual/seasonal coaching needs and assignments: hire and evaluate coaches.
Mentor all new coaches and support and aid all coaches in their daily tasks.
Oversee the maintenance and inventory of equipment required for the athletic department (with direct assistance from the Associate Athletic Directors and the coaches as noted in their job descriptions).
Schedule interscholastic competition with direct assistance from the coaches and Associate Athletic Directors
Be responsible for all game contracts.
Arrange transportation for all away games as needed/requested.
Work with Assigning Secretaries to hire and provide payment for game officials.
Coordinate, in conjunction with the Maintenance Department, the upkeep, set-up, and scheduling of all facilities to ensure a safe playing environment.
Provide or arrange for supervision of athletic events and contests
Work closely with the CFO and Head of School to develop and maintain the athletic budget.
Oversee athletic awards, banquets, and ceremonies, and maintain historical records.
Work closely with the division directors in disciplinary matters when needed.

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or other related experience preferred
Experience leading an athletic department or program; preferably in an independent school environment
Experience on senior administrative teams and working with nonprofit boards.
Experience in measuring and improving department-wide effectiveness.
Experience in the development and management of a high quality coaching staff.
Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, presentation, and listening skills
Experience building and maintaining positive and productive relationships with various constituents including parents and student-athletes.
