The American Trucking Associations is searching for a skilled and experienced Staff Attorney to provide advice and assistance on in-house legal matters and projects. This role’s main responsibility is to advise ATA on corporate legal matters, including employment, tax, insurance, and antitrust law. Additional duties may include reviewing, analyzing, and advising on regulatory, legislative, and legal matters impacting the trucking industry.
Experience in several of the subject matter areas important to corporate law and association management (e.g., antitrust, contract, tax, insurance, corporate governance, corporate compliance, intellectual property, data protection, privacy, and employment law) is preferred;
Familiarity with trucking industry practices and experience in several of the subject matter areas important to trucking (e.g. tax, administrative, labor, and transportation law) a plus.
Skill Requirements: Must have demonstrated ability in appropriate legal skills (e.g., legal analysis, research, and writing), excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to state technically difficult material simply and clearly. Must have consensus-building skills to assert positions strongly without alienating internal clients.A working knowledge of federal and state legislative process a plus.
Professional Certification and Affiliations. Member in good standing of the bar of at least one state (licenses to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia and District of Columbia preferred).
