ABOUT THE POSITION
Reporting to the Chief Partnership Officer the Managing Director, Partnerships manages a focused strategy within a portfolio to achieve excellent and equitable outcomes across a diverse portfolio of school and district partnerships. S/he manages a team of directors and coaches that are deeply committed to achieving equitable impact outcomes for partnerships. The Managing Director will oversee a variety of partnerships requiring skills in technical and adaptive change, cross-functional leadership, and crucial conversations around diversity,equity and inclusion. S/he will need to be skilled in disaggregating data to drive improvement efforts. S/he will need to manage a portfolio to meet or exceed revenue and impact goals. The Managing Director, will work closely with the Chief and the Partnership Development Team to ensure that there is a robust pipeline of partnerships seeking to implement EL Education’s core instructional model and achieve outcomes in the Three Dimensions of Student Achievement. The Managing Director will drive outcomes aligned to EL Education’s theory of action, strategic plan and organizational mission.
Estimated travel: 40% on average (examples of travel may include: in-person meetings with potential school/district partners, delivery of professional development, internal team meetings, internal leadership meetings with colleagues, select industry conferences to promote EL Education’s awareness, etc.)
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
Partnership and Business Development
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with national, state, district and other national education influencers
Attend and present at national conferences and be fluent in EL Education’s core instructional model and K-8 Language Arts curriculum
Engages with EL Education’s partners, staff and funders as an academic content expert to support business development and philanthropic partnerships
With Partnership Development Team evaluate success conditions and support identifying new partners through EL Education’s partnership development process
In collaboration with the Partnership Development Team conduct analysis of the market to identify growth opportunities for EL Education’s school and district services
Build and maintain a portfolio of $7 million in earned fee revenue and philanthropy
Fiscal and Resource Management
Oversee and drive revenue generation within portfolio with clear revenue targets
Strategically and actively manage a portfolio of partnerships to ensure consistency of impact and quality of services
Effectively oversee budget management for philanthropic, organizational and fee-for-service contracts within portfolio
Forecast staffing needs across portfolio and work with other senior leaders to make staffing decisions balancing field needs and financial sustainability
Utilize and maintain systems for deploying full-time staff and consultants
Manage financial and human resources to meet or exceed impact and revenue goals
Accurately forecast projected revenue from partnerships
Partner with the Finance Team to determine pricing and forecast revenue/expenses across portfolio
Leading for Equity and Impact: Portfolio Management
Set strategic vision for potential and existing partnerships and oversee execution of earned fee revenue and philanthropic opportunities to drive resources for sustainable and impactful partnerships aligned with EL Education’s theory of change
In Collaboration with Directors, oversee a portfolio of 150+ schools who are on track to achieve the credentialing standard
Oversee a set of small and medium district partnerships who are on track to achieve impact outcomes across the Three Dimensions of Student Achievement
With the Partnership development Team establish routines and systems for the partnership handoff and contracting process
Build process and success conditions for launching new partnerships that are handed off from the partnership development team
Actively monitor progress of partners to ensure disruption of patterns of inequity in outcomes for students
Boldly invite and lead discussions about diversity, equity and inclusion that lead to disruption of historical patterns of inequity
Actively monitor feedback related to the the delivery of services offered by EL in order to maintain high-quality and provide strategic advisement to the Program Team for new product development
Intervene as needed to address barriers to impact
Performance Management and Talent Development
ExSupport, supervise and retain a diverse team of directors to maximize leadership growth potential
Evaluate and support the directors in oversight of their partnerships in order to achieve excellent and equitable outcomes
Support directors to achieve partnership renewals and exit partnerships that are not on track
Provide differentiated coaching to directors and ensure each director in developing new skills to effectively serve partners and lead teams of EL Education coaches
Ensure ongoing talent management, bench building and career development across team
Leverage and integrate various capacities of the national organization (e.g. program, research, marketing, finance, development) to support partners and EL Education staff
Deliver direct service to selected partners when appropriate and necessary

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
10+ years of professional experience
Master’s degree in education, educational leadership or related field strongly preferred
Adept cultural understanding of yourself and use your understanding of yourself and others to build trusting relationships with direct reports, colleagues and clients.
Authentic self-reflection, self- awareness, and high emotional intelligence are central to who you are, and you utilize these skills to shape a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion,
Demonstrated success with developing and executing impactful partnerships with districts and instructional leaders
Demonstrated effectiveness in leading, managing, and building capacity of high-performing teams
Demonstrated experience supporting curriculum adoption and implementation at a district or charter network level
Demonstrated results partnering with school and districts, with previous experience in K-12 education strongly preferred.
Commitment to and knowledge of EL Education’s approach to teaching and learning
Knowledge and experience in budget management and fiscal oversight for teams/departments
Experience managing change and creating an evidence-based culture of continuous learning
Willingness and ability to travel up to 40%
Willingness to travel on some weekends due to planned partner or internal events, as needed
