The Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Kellogg is responsible for the daily operations of the school, managing and overseeing the budget and financial health of the school, setting the operational direction for the school in support of the overall strategy, and serving as an active participant on the senior leadership team of Kellogg.
The Kellogg COO directly leads the finance, human capital, information technology, facilities, and employee engagement functions of Kellogg. The COO serves as a collaborative leader and steward, effectively leveraging the skills and abilities of these teams and their respective leaders to support students, faculty and programs in an effort to advance the Kellogg Purpose. The COO is responsible for:
Establishing and managing Kellogg’s $280 million operating budget
Ensuring that the incoming revenue streams sufficiently support the cost structure in order to provide an operating surplus
Providing guidance and oversight for budget managers on financial targets and policies
Partnering with budget managers and senior leaders to set annual budgets and ensure fiscal accountability and sound financial management across the organization
Conducting financial analyses to identify opportunities for efficiency and improved reporting to drive data-based decision making
Establishing the human capital priorities for the school (e.g., talent management, employee development, employee engagement) as well as addressing human resource issues that arise
Developing and leading an employee engagement strategy that improves the working environment within Kellogg
Setting the strategy and investment priorities for Kellogg’s IT team
Overseeing the day-to-day IT operational support for the school
Establishing investment priorities for the $2 million annual facilities capital budget
Developing the long-term capital investment strategy for facilities (including the future investment strategy for the Allen Center)
Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with NU senior leadership in order to facilitate the integration of Kellogg strategic plans into the strategic plans of the overall University. Also work with NU senior leadership to address Kellogg day-to-day operational issues that impact the University
Lead a team of 100+ employees in the operational areas of the school
Serve as an active contributor to the Kellogg senior leadership team in setting longer-term strategic direction for Kellogg
Act as a change champion across the school to drive transformational initiatives indicated by the strategy
Work with senior leadership team to establish KPIs (financial and others) across the school
Serve as a representative for Kellogg in dealing with alumni groups, peer institutions, and other external communities
Lead day to day operations of Kellogg, driving strategy and coordinating the response to facilities, IT, HR, and financial issues
Develop the strategic operational plan to support the future Kellogg overall strategic plan
Establish and manage the annual and capital budgets for Kellogg and individual departments
Support the development of the members of the operational team, and act as a thought partner to other members of the senior team
Active contributor on the senior team in the development of the overall Kellogg strategic direction
Act as a conduit to NU central administration on University and Kellogg issues
Represent Kellogg with students and external communities
An undergraduate degree required; an advanced business degree is preferred
At least 10 years of relevant leadership and management experience, which could come from the for-profit, nonprofit, or education setting.
Previous experience must include managing significant budgets and human resources.

Solid understanding of business, technology infrastructure, and best practices with regard to business and IT systems
MBA or advanced business degree
