A research technician position (full-time) is immediately available in the Laboratory for the Study of Metastatic Microenvironments ( LSM2) in Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centers Translational Research Program. This is a unique opportunity to drive a technically rigorous, cutting-edge project aimed at understanding brain metastasis, and the role of the microenvironment in regulating breast tumor cells that arrive in this tissue.
We are looking for a dynamic, bright, meticulous, and highly motivated individual with strong interest in cancer biology, microsurgery, and pre-clinical work. You will be responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work to support our research programs. This will include working with murine models, conducting detailed and rigorous literature searches, and computational analysis of high-dimensional data.
The successful candidate will work with the PI and under a neuroscientist fellow to:
Conduct literature surveys
Perform small animal surgeries to prepare for intravital imaging. These include cranial window implantation.
Prepare and monitor animals during and after surgeries (including weekends), and during live imaging sessions
Establish optimal settings to acquire high-resolution videos from said imaging sessions
Breed a number of transgenic strains, genotype offspring and take meticulous note of resulting genotypes/phenotypes
Conduct metastasis assays, section and stain tissues, image and quantify metastases, measure and organize specific properties related to these lesions
Perform statistical analyses and write computer programs to analyze data
Perform other duties as required
A bachelors degree in the biological sciences or bio(medical)engineering; and at least one-year experience in basic laboratory research skills outside of coursework is required (during undergraduate career is fine). Specialization in neuroscience is a plus, as is programming experience.
Independent research experience outside of laboratory course work is required. The ideal candidate will be meticulous, fearless, self-driven, enthusiastic, extremely well-organized, and excited to contribute to world-class science.
