Responsibilities: - Facilitate a high level of differentiated music instruction in a school focused on supporting students in becoming self-directed.
- Direct ensembles in a variety of genres, accommodating beginner to advanced musicians. (rock/pop, jazz, chamber music, etc.)
- Teach music theory/musicianship from basic to intermediate.
- Coordinate a Spring “Music Cafe” performance for bands.
- Collaborate with other staff to address the needs of the whole child.
- Integrate the teaching of executive functioning skills into classes.
- Create a supportive environment with a focus on belonging.
- Supply class descriptions and record student progress.
- Commitment to diversity, equity and belonging.
- Coordinate parent communication via email, meetings as needed and written narrative reports.
- Model and promote a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Attend community events both scheduled during the regular school day and outside of the regular school day.
- Participate in continuing personal and professional development.
- Engage in self reflection with emphasis on continuous professional growth.
- Implement current research based best practices related to self-directed learning.
Desired Qualifications: - Bachelor’s Degree prefer candidates who have experience teaching in a progressive school environment or outside of school programs like School of Rock.
- Experience working with middle/high school students.
- Exemplary written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to read music; ability to arrange music preferred.
- Excellent executive functioning.
- Strong collaborative planning skills.
- Desire to work in a progressive school environment focused on promoting student self-directed learning experiences.
- Flexibility in meeting the needs of a wide range of learners.
Schedule and Salary:
This is a part-time, 20+ hour/week, 10-month position with some evening and weekend work. The expected schedule is 2.5 days a week broken down either by three half days and one full day a week or five half days each week.
