This position will work within the University of Tennessee College of Social Work Office of Research and Public Service (UT SWORPS) in partnership with the College of Social Work (CSW) to collaborate with faculty, program evaluation/research teams, and community organizations to pursue significant external funding opportunities that advance the CSW priorities for community-engaged research. The position will enhance the CSW s research enterprise through expert, on-going technical direction and guidance to faculty, staff, and graduate students. Responsibilities are described below.
Duties/Responsibilities: Grant proposal development -Collaborate with faculty, program evaluation/research teams, and community partners to coordinate, build, and submit grant proposals and applications aimed at opportunities with the potential for community-engaged research. Manages, edits, writes, and coordinates design and other activities related to proposal development. -Provide technical assistance from analysis of the RFP to extract requirements, to the initial stages of proposal planning and budget development, through proposal submission to the funding agency. -Coordinate grant proposal development activities including preparing and/or editing written material for grant proposals to conform to publication style and publisher or sponsor guidelines; proofreading manuscripts of technical, scientific, or legal nature; coordinate the submission of proposal; ensuring the completion of production according to established deadline, and delegating/tracking tasks to ensure deadlines are met. -Coordinate the strategic development of large proposals (multi-year, multi-investigator projects). Establish submission timeline; develop matrix of requirements - requires participation in strategic planning to identify areas of strength to capitalize on research capabilities, appropriate actions to align research expertise with opportunities, and ability to anticipate problems from a broad, interactive perspective and address them proactively, outstanding customer service skills, and ability to work and/or lead (as appropriate) within a team.
Engages in research intelligence -Research and identify faculty research interests and strengths, prioritizing CSW faculty, but inviting interdisciplinary collaboration as well. -Analyze and targets funding opportunities with specific interest in opportunities that would bring CSW faculty and UT SWORPS expertise together to address local community and state needs. -Manage activities related to early warning for funding opportunities, federal agency engagement, proposal development, internal faculty interest, and external collaborators for large funding opportunities. -Identify senior participants and research partners. Coordinate with external partners as appropriate to ensure community-engaged scholarship, both meeting the needs of external partners, while also having explicit intent to address research questions and contribute to the research literature.
Liaison - Facilitate the resolution of sponsored research-related issues referred by departmental personnel and/or university research administrators -Provide on-going updates and information regarding the status of research activities for the UT SWORPS Director, CSW Dean, Associate Dean for Research, and Research Center Director -Serve as liaison with deans, department heads, faculty, senior administrators, external research partners, and funding agency representatives to facilitate collaborative research activities and clarify procedures and regulations during proposal development stage. -Interact with other internal administrative units on campus such as Office of Research & Engagement (ORE), Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), Sponsored Projects Accounting (SPA), UT Research Foundation (UTRF), UT Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) and Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) for information exchange, problem resolution, and clarification of policies and procedures. - Draft research agreements and memorandums of understanding, including intellectual property clauses with potential funding organizations.
Outreach/represent CSW and UT SWORPS -As a representative of the CSW and UT SWORPS, develops collaborative relationships with other University departments and faculty, state and local government, nonprofit organizations, and businesses. -Actively participates in strategic planning, team building, and coordination with the CSW and UT SWORPS. -Collaborates with faculty and research teams to strategize and deliver complex proposals. -Facilitates interdisciplinary teams while maximizing University capacity and resources.
