Archdiocese of Boston Elementary School Principal Greater Boston, MA July 2020
Extraordinary lives begin with a great Catholic education - championed by extraordinary men and women who lead with missionary zeal. A Catholic school leader has a tremendous impact not only in leading a school but on the life of the parish and Church community. Consider investing your vocation in Catholic schools. Help us transform the lives of students and the trajectories of entire communities. In partnership with the Archdiocese of Boston, we seek visionary leaders who see the possible and are excited to make it happen.
Under the dynamic leadership of recently appointed Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Thomas W. Carroll, the Archdiocese of Boston's Catholic Schools Office seeks strong, faithful school leaders as it executes a new strategic vision focused on strengthening Catholic identity, academic excellence, and operational vitality throughout its elementary schools.
Why Boston? The Archdiocese is home to a diverse set of 110 Catholic schools, with over 3,000 educators serving more than 30,000 students with 60% of those students in urban areas. Within broad parameters, school leaders are given great autonomy, much more than educators find in public district schools or charter schools.
The greater Boston region remains one of the most Catholic cities in the United States. The area is a key destination, with 52 colleges and universities, world-class cultural institutions, diverse communities, and vibrant social life.
Additionally, new principals secured through this process are invited to participate - at no personal cost - in the Lynch Leadership Academy, housed at Boston College's Carroll School of Management. This academy serves to provide support to new and existing school leaders across all three sectors (district, charter, and Catholic), with a focus on helping principals become strong instructional leaders and learn how to use data to inform instruction. Participants are also provided experienced mentors. The Catholic Schools Office supplements this experience with the ongoing formation in the Catholic faith.
Cardinal Sean O'Malley, who has a strong commitment to Catholic education, has led the Archdiocese of Boston since 2003, is the President of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, and is one of eight cardinals chosen worldwide to advise Pope Francis on a regular basis. Cardinal Sean's tenure was recently extended by the Holy Father.
Investing in Catholic Education - vitality and availability for all families! Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley, O.F.M. Cap., Archbishop of Boston, recently announced the public launch of a $200 million capital campaign to strengthen and expand the work of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese. It is the first Archdiocesan-wide capital campaign undertaken in nearly two decades and it is one of the largest faith-based fundraising efforts currently being conducted in the United States.
Inspiring Hope: Our Cardinal's Campaign for the Future of Our Catholic Faith is a five-year campaign designed to support many important efforts underway in Catholic parishes, schools and social service agencies across 144 communities.
The campaign will prioritize support for nearly 3,100 teachers and principals by providing leadership training and increased compensation for the retention of top educators. The campaign will also provide significant resources to enhance academics, provide new governance models and to help ensure a Catholic education remains within reach of all families, regardless of religion or race.
