Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement
Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is seeking an Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement to begin July 1, 2020. Under the supervision of the Director of Alumni Engagement, this position assists with the development, implementation, and management of alumni and parent of alumni programs, activities and communications that deepen the School’s relationship with these important constituencies The Assistant Director is responsible for conveying the vision that is developed in partnership with the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Head of School, and the Association leadership. This position works closely with the Director of Alumni Engagement and the Assistant Head of School to foster a culture of philanthropy in the alumni community. In addition, this position cultivates and solicits alumni for gifts as appropriate.
Duties & Responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Collaborates with the Alumni Engagement team to develop, plan, and implement a year-round program of events and activities (including arts, sports and social opportunities, reunion weekend, and more) directed at connecting with and cultivating alumni and parents of alumni
Develops and implements student/alumni programs that engage alumni and enrich the educational experience
Works with Alumni Engagement Associate to develop and manage the Young Alumni Network
Parents of Alumni
Identifies volunteer opportunities
Develops communications strategy
Creates events and programs
Facilitates parents of alumni care packages to their college students
Serves as resource to the Brentwood Alumni Association
Sits on the Master Calendar Committee
Supports the Director of Alumni Engagement in developing, implementing, and managing the alumni and alumni parents annual fund program (The Brentwood Fund)
Manages Poker Night Fundraiser for Alumni Endowment Fund for Financial Aid
Personally cultivates, solicits, and stewards alumni, as directed, who have the capacity to give to Brentwood
Collaborates with Alumni Engagement Associate to manage acknowledgement of all alumni and parent of alumni gifts
Research and Data
Conducts ongoing collection of attendance and feedback data for evaluation of program/event effectiveness
Oversees periodic surveys of alumni to update information and to assess their overall satisfaction with their Brentwood education
Oversees management of alumni database
Works collaboratively with the Director and the Communications team to develop and implement a communications plan that utilizes a variety of channels and media to stay in touch with alumni and alumni parents, including:
Ensures that School’s key themes and messages are incorporated into alumni and parent of alumni programs and activities
Provides articles related to alumni and parents of alumni for the School’s publications
Collaborates with Alumni Engagement Associate and Digital Media Manager on implementation of social media in alumni engagement
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Alumni Engagement or Senior Administrative Team, including some evenings and weekends
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate ideas clearly, both orally and in writing
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy
Service oriented problem-solver, able to manage simultaneous demands with a willing, friendly attitude
Strong analytical skills with the ability to maintain internal controls
Strong computer skills, including high competency with Microsoft Suite, database systems, email marketing programs, and social media. Preference given to those with knowledge of Raiser’s Edge
Experience with website management, design, and editing software preferred
Demonstrated collaboration on a team and cross-cultural competency
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of experience in nonprofit, fundraising, event planning and/or an independent school setting preferred
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required
Experience in volunteer management and support

In its relatively short history, Brentwood School has grown to be one of the premier independent day schools in Southern California. Founded as a non-profit corporation in 1972, Brentwood School acquired the Brentwood Military Academy, which had existed since 1902.
Brentwood School opened in the fall of 1972 as a co-educational, college preparatory day school with grades 6-10. Grade 11 was added in fall 1973, and the school graduated its first senior class in June 1975.
