TAB is recruiting a candidate to join our executive leadership team to oversee state and federal legislative & regulatory affairs for our organization in Austin, TX. The position is responsible for directing relations with State Legislative and Congressional offices and state and federal agencies. It will also include overseeing the work of TAB’s legislative team and contract lobbyists. The Senior Vice President of Advocacy will work closely with member companies to keep them informed on legislative matters and must have strong inter-personal skills to keep in regular contact with the members of the state and national affairs committees. In addition, this position will oversee relevant coalitions. The senior VP for advocacy will report to the CEO
In coordination with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, develop a strategic vision for the government affairs function with specific focus in areas affecting the economic success of the state to ensure the Association is a key influencer of laws, regulations, and public policy
Serve as a senior advisor to the CEO advising on advocacy strategy, public policy, and political feasibility
Serve as a senior leader in the organization with focus on developing a collaborative, member-driven culture
Lead a team of public policy and political professionals to implement the organizations strategic objectives
Manage external consultants
Manage all PAC activities
In consultation with TAB committees and members, develop TAB’s legislative agenda and legislative strategy while developing a relationship inventory of which TAB members have relationships with key members of the legislature.
Fully responsible for successful implementation of legislative strategy during the session and interim.
Constantly communicate with TAB members about legislative priorities
Serve as a subject matter witness on behalf of TAB before key legislative committees
Represent the organization before external audiences
Maintain strong working relationships with the Texas Legislature and the Texas congressional delegation
Maintain strong working relationships with state and federal agencies important to TAB’s legislative priorities
Oversee grassroots and grasstops efforts including mobilization of members on key legislation
Coordinate activities with allied organizations and coalitions on legislative and policy initiatives
Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience at Texas Capitol, Capitol Hill, and/or in government affairs. A proven track record of legislative accomplishment is required. Must have demonstrated ability to manage internal teams and external consultants. Strong writing and communications skills are required. Ability to travel up to 20 percent of the time should be expected.
