The Lower Campus of Sierra Canyon seeks a dynamic and experienced full-time reading specialist to start at the beginning of the 2020 – 2021 school year. The Lower Campus consists of Pre-K - grade 6 levels. The school seeks a specialist-teacher who exhibits excellence in the classroom, encourages students' development as informed and ethical citizens of the world, and works collaboratively and productively with colleagues across several grade levels.

The candidate is expected to do the following:
Responsible for the implementation and development of the reading remediation program in grades Kindergarten-Grade 5; provide direct and consistent reading instruction within Kindergarten and 1st grade, Monday-Friday
Support student instruction for grades 2-5 via pull-out (preferred experience with reading remediation / phonics programs: Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, or Lindamood-Bell)
Plan and implement lesson plans that follow the Balanced Literacy model (read aloud, guided reading, shared reading, independent reading, and word study), phonics, and Lucy Calkins’s Readers Workshop model and support the learning needs of students
Organize and support student instruction before and after school hours during the school’s “breakfast club” and “homework club” respectively
Collaborate with teachers, Lower School Director, and Director of Studies, in order to develop differentiated large and small group reading tools and strategies.
Create unit plans that reflect sequential learning with differentiated activities based on students’ knowledge and skills.
Use grade level guidelines to assess and evaluate students throughout the year, maintaining records and writing report cards accordingly.
Proficiency in multi-sensory teaching methodologies
Continue to develop professionally by learning new programs and pedagogies
Collaborate positively and respectfully with all members of the Sierra Canyon School community, including colleagues, school administrators and parents.
Display strong organization and time-management skills
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and other professionals on a continual basis
