This is an exempt position for a person who will serve as a key partner in marketing campaign development, planning and execution. This individual will work collaboratively with the Director of Marketing & Communications, a Marketing Communications Manager, and other professional team members across SLAS to execute marketing campaigns for SLAS’s events, products and services.

Chief Executive Officer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage production and publishing schedules; meet established deadlines.
Ensure messaging integration, consistency and proper timing across all SLAS platforms.
Track, interpret and respond to all available user analytics for SLAS communication platforms.
Coordinate efforts with professional team members (e.g., marketing, administration, web, conference, education, scientific publishing, membership).
Represent SLAS professionally and appropriately.
Understand and work within established budgets.
Create and assist in preparing status management reports.
Maintain master reference files and archives of messages, collateral and design files.
Global Events Marketing: in-person and virtual events
Write benefit-driven content for cross-channel marketing campaigns that speak to SLAS’s multi-disciplinary global audience and are aligned to specific audience segments
Coordinate messaging across international conferences (U.S. and Europe), regional symposia (currently U.S. and Europe), plus virtual events and online recorded content
Author, route and oversee media releases, social media posts, newsletter posts and other promotions stemming from SLAS’s two peer-reviewed journals
Oversee journal promotional opportunities, coordinating efforts with publishing manager
Society Website Oversight
Write content and oversee site utility and usability of SLAS.org (post-site relaunch in May 2020) including prompt and strategic content updates.
Work closely with external web provider on content development, CMS and maintenance needs, SEO, Google Analytics.
Support Membership team in fulfillment and management of marketing efforts related to membership acquisition and retention campaigns
Oversee design, development, and production of membership and program materials such as brochures, flyers, letters, announcements, and advertisements

The SLAS headquarters office is located in Oak Brook, Illinois; local candidates are preferred, but a remote work setting will be considered for the right candidate. Subject to change, currently this position requires travel to the Society’s annual international (U.S.) and/or Europe conference (one week each) and other related in-person meetings as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Outstanding reporting, writing, proofreading and editing skills
Experience writing marketing copy for a scientific/technical target audience
Formatting and distribution of email using HigherLogic (Informz) email marketing platform
Command of ACS editorial style guidelines
Basic functional competence in website content management platforms (currently using Mura)
Outstanding organizational skills; use of Teamwork.com to track tasks/milestones
Ability to manage a variety of working relationships (internally and externally) with a customer service orientation
Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Flexibility and creative problem-solving skills
Professional demeanor and commitment to sound business ethics and high levels of integrity
Commitment to staying informed of trends and best practices in association marketing and communications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, advertising or related field
Two to four years of experience, preferably in the areas of publishing or marketing communications
One to three years non-profit association management experience
Telecommuting is allowed.
