The USC Sol Price School of Public Policy invites applicants for an adjunct faculty position in the area of design. The successful candidate should possess at least a Masterâs degree with strong training in architecture or design. The candidate will be able to teach graduate-level intensive design course that is taught in a studio setting. The course is taught over a two-day period where students will go through a design charrette, site visit, and develop an understanding of design principles. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience and excellent teaching evaluations.
The successful candidate will be eligible to teach either PLUS 663 or PLUS 669: These courses explore theories and concepts of livable communities and good city form. Case studies of historical and current best practices, field visits, and collaborative design projects will all be used to help students gain experience required to begin to âreadâ urban form and understand its impact on daily life. Multiple viewpoints will be presented throughout to encourage the development of studentsâ critical thinking skills. All class activities will explicitly explore both the intended and unintended consequences of design decisions at the scale of urban development.
Adjunct instructor responsibilities include delivery of course content, scheduling office hours and being accessible to students as appropriate, and grading. Each instructor is expected to provide students with a syllabus outlining the course goals, schedule and all requirements for the course under the direction of the Department Chair.
