The Public Health Law Center, a dynamic, nonprofit affiliate of Mitchell Hamline School of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota, has an immediate opening for one full-time Communications Specialist who has a passion for working for the social good and who shares our commitment to continued learning on issues related to racial and social justice, including the social determinants of health, implicit bias, and systemic oppression. The position will be a member of a 3-person Communication department, and support the Director of Communications with a variety of activities to advance the mission of the Center. The Center’s mission is health through the power of law and policy. The Center empowers its partners to reduce and eliminate commercial tobacco, promote healthy food, support physical activity, and address other causes of chronic disease. Our belief in health and equity for all people is at the core of our work. Our partnerships include Tribal health leaders, federal agencies, national health advocacy organizations, state and local governments, planners, researchers, attorneys, community coalitions, and individuals working on public health issues. Our deep knowledge, thoughtful legal and policy analysis, and individualized approach help these partners create healthier communities around the country.
Bachelor's degree in a related field such as communications, journalism, or other. (Additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for the degree.)
Zero to two years of professional communications experience.
Ability to work collaboratively with many different stakeholders.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Pro-active, organized and detailed-orientated, with the ability to multi-task and work effectively under deadlines.
Willingness to learn.
Experience with Drupal, or other content management systems.
Experience working with email marketing tools.
Experience with photography, and the editing of digital images.
Knowledge of HTML, CSS.
Public Health, health, legal, academic or nonprofit experience.
