Position Summary: The Associate Director, Career Center and Member Services, helps plan, execute, and analyze Career Center programs, products, and services for their overall contribution to member value. Reporting to the Director of Membership and Career Center, this position manages NAFSA’s online job registry, onsite Career Center programs at the annual conference, and assists the strategic growth of the Career Center into a year-round, online resource that contributes to NAFSA’s membership value proposition.
Major Functions and Responsibilities:
Manage NAFSA’s online job registry and @NAFSAjobs (40%)
Partner with NAFSA leadership to continuously develop fresh marketing approaches that encourage incremental growth for the job registry
Liaise with vendor contacts to explore innovative marketing opportunities and new products
Develop new features/services or devices to engage prospects to NAFSA membership
Manage social media partnering with Marketing to encourage traffic to the job registry
Generate monthly and quarterly reports on revenue
Establish, track, and report out on key metrics
Lead the planning, execution and evaluation of the Career Center program at the NAFSA annual conference (10%)
Collaborate with membership team and staff leaders to frame and curate Career Center onsite program activities
Mobilize and manage volunteers for Career Center positions (resume reviewers, career advice, mock interviewers)
Recruit and engage with vendors and employers interested in advertising their employment opportunities
Source, schedule, and manage speakers for the Career Center Speaker Series
Grow NAFSA’s Career Center into a year-round core member resource (15%)
Explore and develop strategies to increase revenue and member engagement with the online Career Center
Conduct online research and focus groups to articulate career development needs of members while constantly calibrating existing career development offerings against that need
Curate both external and NAFSA professional development opportunities and resources that intersect with member knowledge community interest areas and career progression.
Assist director in creating Career Center budget; track income and expenses for Career Center activities
Partner closely with NAFSA staff colleagues to acquire, develop, or customize appropriate resources and content (10%)
Coordinate cross-unit planning and development of career management programs, products, events, and services to insure alignment across the association, smooth planning, and clear communication
Follow Career Center trends and spotlight potential opportunities and innovations that will strengthen, sustain, or broaden relationships
Update Career Center web site content and ensures that related web assets are compelling, accurate and thematically aligned with larger strategy and campaigns.
Engage and educate internal staff and key stakeholders on the value and efficacy of the Career Center to the association and the field as a whole
Serve as the primary Member Services contact for complex second-tier questions and inquiries (20%)
Internalize and communicate a comprehensive understanding of member benefits, professional development offerings, and NAFSA events
Master internal processes and procedures related to memberships transactions, NAFSA’s association management system (iMIS), and NAFSA’s method of allocating and tracking special offer vouchers
Assist with targeted research, such as competitive scans, surveys and audience assessments
Develop new processes to track member communications and resolution of issues
Serve as main point of contact for visiting delegations to NAFSA; curate content and speakers
All other duties as assigned by the Director, Membership and Career Center (5%)
Scope of Supervision
The position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
As representatives of a membership organization with a broad and diverse range of activities related to education and training, NAFSA staff possess more than simply specialized capabilities. Each individual is expected to take the initiative to become knowledgeable about the organization as a whole. Association members and other staff expect colleagues to be accessible and responsive, to convey a positive attitude, and to exhibit a high degree of professionalism.
The workday is generally 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The week after Memorial Day to Labor Day, it is 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
Travel is required occasionally related to job responsibilities, especially for the annual conference, regional meetings, and other leadership meetings. Participation in the NAFSA annual conference the week of Memorial Day, including the holiday itself, is a job requirement. The annual conference is held in varying cities.
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
At least five (5) years of program/project management experience
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, set priorities, and exercise sound judgment
Successful cultivation and maintenance of collaborative working relationships with staff peers and colleagues in cross-functional areas and teams
A track record of superior customer relations skills with diverse audiences using a variety of communication mediums and platforms
Ability to master various technology, social media, web, and data management systems
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Previous career services, workforce development, or recruiting experience
Experience with database/association management software
Marketing, promotional, or event planning skills
Exposure to or experience in volunteer engagement and coordination
Previous experience with NAFSA, international education, or other association membership, or nonprofit organization
