Founded in 2003, Urban Initiatives is a nonprofit organization that runs youth development programs in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Urban Initiatives’ mission is to empower Chicago’s youth to become community leaders through academic success, healthy living, and social-emotional learning. We amplify the inherent power of sports and teamwork to unify diverse stakeholders and strengthen communities. Currently, Urban Initiatives serves over 11,000 students in grades K-12 throughout the City of Chicago. The Evaluation and Database Manager is primarily responsible for driving continuous program quality improvement through the management of implementation evaluation at Urban Initiatives (UI). The Evaluation and Database Manager will also administer UI’s participant database in Salesforce.
We seek a high-energy, data-driven, organized, detail-oriented, and effective-communicating critical thinker to fill this position. This role will require a 40-hour work schedule with occasional advance evening and weekend commitments. This position reports to the Research and Evaluation Director.
Oversee all aspects of implementation evaluation for UI’s core programs, including driving the review and execution of each program’s implementation evaluation strategy and tools in collaboration with program leadership
Provide regular analysis and reporting of program implementation data to support program staff’s usage of real-time data for continuous improvement and track progress toward programming goals and priorities
Collaborate with program staff and program leadership to identify programmatic priorities for using implementation data for continuous quality improvement, develop relevant trainings for program staff, and obtain regular feedback from program staff on ways to make implementation data most useful and accessible
Lead all aspects of database strategy and management, including administrating UI’s program participant database in Salesforce, proactively identifying opportunities to improve database functionality, efficiency, and utilization to meet organizational needs, evaluating new version releases of Salesforce-related system tools and any potential impacts, and troubleshooting all issues/errors across Salesforce and integrated apps
Participate in data collection activities with K-12 students during recess and out-of-school-time programming, modeling inclusive evaluation practices that prioritize the needs and physical and emotional safety of program participants
In collaboration with the Research and Evaluation Director, explore the possibility of working with external research stakeholder(s) to develop and implement an organization-wide study of program implementation fidelity and quality
Ensure that UI’s implementation evaluation practices reflect equitable evaluation values and prioritize learning from UI participants
Embody UI’s organizational values across all facets of work: teamwork, commitment, fun, impact, inclusion, and initiative
Passion for Urban Initiatives’ mission and program evaluation as an organizational learning tool
Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience using data to drive decision-making and identify best practices and areas for continuous program improvement
Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask, prioritize work effectively, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or G Suite
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
Demonstrated ability to master new databases and manage the technical aspects of a database on the back-end in order to improve user experience and reporting capabilities
Easily masters new data visualization tools and techniques
Basic knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analysis
Desire to be a team player and ability to effectively work both independently and collaboratively
Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders
Excellence in both written and verbal communications and the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders
Ability to think critically, be forward thinking, and determine situational and systemic solutions to problems
Commitment to interrupting all forms of oppression in the workplace to work toward organizational anti-racist, anti-oppressive transformation
Basic proficiency in SPSS or R (preferred but not required)
Experience with Salesforce (preferred but not required)
Fluency in Spanish (preferred but not required)
