The Principal Gifts Specialist provides biographical information for the purposes of philanthropy to the leadership of Iowa State University and the ISU Foundation. The primary duties of this position are creating biographical briefings for fundraising calls and athletic events hosted by university and foundation leadership, running reports on key program metrics, and acting as a resource for strategy meetings.
In This Role, You Will…
Create detailed call objectives on prospective donors for fundraising visits made by university and foundation leadership and write accurate profiles by compiling necessary information, facts, and plans for successful donor visits.
Employ a variety of resources to gather, analyze, and produce internal information regarding individuals and corporations/foundations that have a connection to ISU.
Assist in planning strategy meetings organized by the Principal Gifts team.
Run and analyze prospecting reports for university and foundation leadership travel and hosting opportunities; make recommendations to leadership about potential visits.
To Be Successful, You Will Need…
Bachelor’s degree preferred
8 years’ work experience, including at least 3 years of experience in nonprofit or higher education prospect research setting. Education may be substituted for years of experience.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications. Ability to learn in-house computer systems.
Must possess excellent attention to detail and accuracy, communication skills (both written and verbal); editorial skills; judgment, organizational planning and diplomacy, and professionalism
Ability to quickly learn and analyze information
Customer service mindset
Familiarity with online research sources and internet searching
Attention to detail, accuracy, proofreading and editing
Ability to adhere to deadlines and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
Ability to work effectively as a member of team while collaborating across the foundation and with university administration
Familiarity with fundraising in higher education, non-profit organizations and/or relationship management industries (sales/customer service), preferred.
