SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT , Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF)-Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) , to be responsible for the daily operations of accounting including financial reporting, reconciliation, compliance, analysis, control, and improvement of financial functions of assigned areas. Major duties include maintaining accounting, data, and reporting processes; reviewing and managing financial data using SAP and other financial reporting tools; and acting as a resource to VPF staff and the MIT community. Will manage master data creation and maintenance including general ledger (G/L) accounts, profit centers, and costing sheets related to trial balance and financial statements; drive monthly and year-end close processes; prepare account reconciliations, research, and resolve reconciling items; assist junior staff; prepare financial reporting schedules; analyze data and make recommendations; participate in audit activities and SAP testing; and perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in accounting, business, or related field; three years' experience in financial accounting and reporting; knowledge of accounting principles and relevant federal regulations; Excel and Word proficiency; proactive approach to responsibilities; strong problem identification/solving, customer service, collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills; and experience with reporting tools (e.g., BrioQuery, Cognos). Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, manage multiple tasks and conflicting priorities, meet strict deadlines, and collaborate with a diverse group of individuals from varying backgrounds and levels in a complex, busy, and changing environment. PREFERRED : certified public accountant (CPA); experience with corporate finance, financial reporting, budgeting, accounting, and managing business processes; experience defining and creating reports and dashboards; experience with SAP or similar accounting and reporting system; and experience in higher education or nonprofit accounting.
