Description: The TJ Partnership Fund (TJPF) is currently seeking an Alumni Relations Coordinator to support the TJPF’s mission and vision. The TJPF exists to establish and maintain a fund to support the unique learning opportunities, specialized curriculum and innovative research experiences available to students at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ) that are not covered by traditional funding sources. Moving forward, the TJPF will work to broaden the impact of TJ to the overall Fairfax and Virginia communities, to connect in new and meaningful ways with TJ alumni, and to increase STEM education outreach to underprivileged and underrepresented communities throughout our region.
As the TJPF’s Coordinator of Alumni Relations, you will work with staff, board members, and volunteers (including parents, students, and alumni) to meet annual fundraising goals by cultivating and strengthening relationships with key donors and prospects. In addition, you will be responsible for the TJ Alumni Community platform and engagement strategies.
The position reports to the Executive Director.
Plans, coordinates, and executes a comprehensive series of alumni engagement activities to include reunions, regional events, and on-campus tours
Develops and maintains regional alumni chapters and activities while providing leadership and direction to chapter leaders and alumni board leaders and representatives
Develops alumni events and networking programs and communicates such information to recent alumni using various types of media. Promotes alumni programs to campus faculty and staff and manages involvement
Develops annual plan and budget for annual giving and alumni relations programs
Alumni Solicitation and Stewardship
Visits alumni on a regular basis to identify and recruit volunteers to support the TJPF’s goals and objectives. Manages a portfolio of leadership annual fund donors and prospects by cultivating and soliciting alumni prospects and stewarding current donors
Develops and actively promotes the annual fund to alumni while acting as the main point of contact for all gifts and queries
Develops and prepares information about alumni events as well as alumni versions of print and online communication materials
Maintains TJ Alumni Community (360Alumni) and other social media platforms used by our alumni
Updates the TJPF donor database with accurate and up to date alumni data
Develops and manages content and engagement on the TJ Alumni Community platform using a combination of alumni leaders and current students to help achieve a mix of perspectives and stories
Designs and implements reports to monitor the progress towards reaching alumni goals of fundraising, engagement, and involvement. Recommends and implements strategies to adjust existing plans to meet changing conditions and situations
Maintains the TJ Student Ambassador program to involve current students as volunteers in alumni relationship building activities
Prepares and sends all alumni related email blasts
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Knowledge of best practices in non-profit fundraising and alumni engagement
Experience using Raiser’s Edge or another CRM platform
Event planning experience is encouraged
Entrepreneurial approach to constituent engagement and fundraising, with a keen appreciation for the specific challenges of working with a young organization in transition. Ability to develop fundraising strategies and techniques
Ability to communicate and interact with, as well as support effective partnerships with peers, subordinates, and school and community leaders
Comfort with STEM education topics and terms
Must be able to travel up to 40%, occasional work on evenings and/or weekends may be required
Self-starter excited about the potential to develop and grow a program

The TJ Partnership Fund (PF) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization that raises funds to meet TJ’s unique needs as a premier public science and technology high school. Since 1999, the PF has raised funds to support the ongoing needs of the School, including acquiring equipment and technology for TJ’s research labs and other classrooms, and making possible special programs and events such as the tjSTAR research symposium.
