The Director of Career Services, under general direction, oversees the administration and organization of the Career Services Center including career operations, all aspects of student employment, career counseling, career assessment, student development workshops, employer outreach, and job development. Manages multiple budgets, including grant resources.
Oversees the development, implementation, and coordination of functions, staff, procedures, assessments, and budgets within the Department of Career and Professional Development. Keeps well informed of current career issues, effective practices, policy, regulations, and job market dynamics. Systematically evaluates current processes and resources in order to identify current, short-term and long-term needs related to trends in Career and Professional Development.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with corporate, nonprofit, government and other related employers and agencies. Acquires sponsorships that strategically identify and secure funds to promote employers visibility to students. Develops and maintains a network of employers and other organizations interested in hiring TAMUCT students and alumni for internships, part-time employment, and full-time careers. Coordinate with area schools, agencies, and organizations to promote opportunities and design specific opportunities for employers to engage with TAMUCT students.
Oversees the planning and implementation of career fairs and other career-related forums. Provides career support workshops and presentations, including specialized programs for graduate students. Develops and provides oversight for a comprehensive internship program. Coordinates online job search and career exploration database. In collaboration with Employee Services, oversee the coordination of part-time employment for the campus and community.
Builds and maintains a close working relationship with staff, academic departments, and academic advising to provide comprehensive student support. Develops collaborative working relations with Alumni Affairs to strengthen services offered to alumni and utilize the talents and resources of alumni to assist current students in career development. Serves on university committees and attends divisional and university meetings as required.
Provides leadership and supervises, hires, and trains Career Services staff and interns to ensure a professional and dynamic workplace.
Provides career guidance, research, educational presentations, and consultations to students, alumni, faculty and staff. Interprets personality assessments and provide individual career coaching sessions to students. Reviews resumes and cover letters and performs mock interviews.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Oversees the collection, analysis, and distribution of graduate employment surveys and other assessments. Compiles and distributes the results to appropriate university constituents. Establish, implement, and continually assess and evaluate collaborative career outcomes.
Education â“ Masterâ™s degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience â“ Ten years of professional experience in career services working directly with College students.
Knowledge of â“ Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to â“ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Licensing / Professional Certification â“ Valid driverâ™s license.
Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
This position generally supervises employees.
