Hospital Overview: United Hospital is a nonprofit acute care regional medical center located in Saint Paul, Minnesota that is part of the Allina Health System. The medical staff provides comprehensive services including cardiology, gastroenterology, psychiatry, oncology, and obstetrics. The pharmacy department emphasizes a decentralized approach to providing drug distribution and comprehensive clinical services. Clinical services include staff education, anticoagulation management, antimicrobial stewardship, admission medication histories, response to medical emergencies, TPN monitoring, drug information, and pharmacokinetic consultations. The residency program is affiliated with the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy.
Residency Overview: The PGY-2 Health-system Pharmacy Administration & Leadership residency is designed to build on PGY-1 resident competencies to prepare our residents to secure a leadership role within health-system pharmacy. The resident is fully integrated into the management team as well as a member of the health-system pharmacy enterprise leadership team. Rotation activities are longitudinal in nature and include experiences in leadership/compliance/regulatory/safety, human resource management, pharmacy operations leadership, clinical operations leadership, and participation in ASHP’s Pharmacy Leadership Academy. Residents also have opportunities to complete the following rotations: system-formulary, health-system leadership, regional hospital leadership, and association management at ASHP headquarters. Residents have the opportunity to develop skills required to be successful in an academic setting through teaching experience in collaboration with the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy.
Residency outcomes and objectives are established at the beginning of the residency year and are modified to meet the needs of the resident according to their interest areas.
