Applications Sought for the Position of Chief, Section of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center The Department of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and Boston Medical Center (BMC) invites applications for the position of Chief, Section of General Internal Medicine (GIM). BMC is a safety-net hospital with a very culturally diverse patient population. The section is comprised of over 140 faculty members including advanced practice providers. The 46 million dollar research portfolio includes 73 grants, 30 of which were new in AY19. Clinical faculty provide over 120,000 adult primary care visits annually in an inter-professional setting that includes integrated behavioral health as well as an inpatient setting with a robust hospitalist system. Section faculty are integral to the education of internal medicine residents, fellows and students and hold multiple educational leadership positions within the institution. Qualifications: The candidate must be a board-certified internist with an established research program, record of extramural funding, and extensive publication record. Additionally, experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and exposure to national research review procedures and an interest in models of care for complex patients are strongly preferred. The candidate must demonstrate academic accomplishments that merit the rank of Associate or Full Professor at BUSM. We strongly encourage applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds. Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities will be to provide outstanding leadership to the clinical, teaching, and research programs within the Section of General Internal Medicine. In addition to establishing and running his/her own research program, the candidate is expected to establish collaborative research partnerships with the department, medical center, university, and external commercial and nonprofit organizations. The section chief is expected to pursue innovation and excellence in each of the core missions of the section, provide insightful and helpful leadership to existing faculty and programs, and recruit additional faculty to the section.
