The Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University seeks to employ a 9-month, tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank in Muscle Biology to begin in spring 2020 or when a suitable candidate is found. This position will have a research and teaching emphasis. The anticipated position split will be 65% research and 35% teaching. Although there is no formal outreach education in the appointment, the individual is expected to collaborate with other faculty for engaging in outreach education.
Animal herds and flocks are available in Columbus, Wooster, and research branch stations to support programs, an on-campus harvest facility exists, and a research laboratory will be provided.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program in muscle biology related to agriculturally-relevant species.
Candidates interested in a research/teaching appointment will be required to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program and contribute to the educational mission of the department through teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses.
They will also be expected to collaborate with current faculty to continue pursuing common themes within the Department such as enhancing meat quality and nutritional value, pre- and post-harvest food safety, animal welfare, and the economic profitability of food animal production systems.
The new faculty member will also be expected to work closely with partners in allied industries towards a common goal of providing support for the State's animal and meat processing industries and exploring the National One Health Initiative, which focuses on links among animal health, human health, and our environment.
Requirements include a Ph.D. in Animal Science, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated commitment to research and teaching.
