TheSchool of Marine and Environmental Affairs (SMEA) at the University of Washington (UW) invites applications for one nine-month (100% FTE) faculty position in U.S. Fisheries Management. The position will be filled at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure. A Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in marine science, fisheries science, marine policy, or a related field is required.
Duties of the position include the following:
1) Conduct empirical research in an area of specialization and contribute to collaborative interdisciplinary research, develop and maintain a vibrant externally-funded research program, sustain a strong publication record, contribute to teaching and mentoring of graduate students, contribute to the functioning and vitality of the School and College through service, and support the interdisciplinary mission of SMEA.
2) Teach graduate-level courses in an area of specialization and to contribute to teaching in SMEA's core curriculum. Courses that build practical skills while advancing critical thinking and theoretical understanding are a priority for SMEA. Candidates may be asked to teach undergraduate courses in other departments as appropriate. Candidates may be asked to assist in building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment in teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service.
3) Fulfill our commitment to inclusion and to participate in recruiting, training, and mentoring underrepresented minority students (URM) and those from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, economic means, and academic backgrounds. The Associate Professor will demonstrate a) evidence of research excellence concerning fisheries management at the federal level in the United States; b) evidence of a vibrant, externally-funded research program concerning one or more aspects of U.S. fisheries management, and c) evidence of outstanding classroom teaching and thesis advising in fisheries management.
