Assistant Director of Annual Giving Middlebury College

Position Summary: The Assistant Director plays an important role, helping to achieve the overarching fundraising goals for the Office of Annual Giving. This position travels extensively to cultivate and solicit Middlebury constituents for participation and leadership-level Annual Fund gifts. He/she coordinates and monitors the reunion programs for a defined group of classes and potentially other signature programs. This position travels extensively conducting 1:1 solicitations, small group cultivation and alumni engagement through event interaction. He/she cultivates annual participation gifts, leadership-level Annual Fund gifts and recruits, trains and stewards class fundraising volunteers.
Essential Functions: Earliest anticipated start date is October 6, 2019.
Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
Travel extensively; conduct at least 100 visits with prospects and volunteers for assessment, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Manage at least one milestone reunion program and a portfolio of defined classes; recruit and manage the Committees; guide the goal setting and fundraising planning process.
Effectively partner with Alumni office counterpart on the reunion program to ensure a successful overall reunion that is well attended.
Maintain oversight of a pool of Special Gifts prospects, encompassing assessment, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of these individuals.
Serve as point person for annual giving efforts related to one of Middleburys giving societies.
Build and advance strong personal and professional relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of Middlebury that result in philanthropic contributions; serve as a resource, advocate, and spokesperson for development programs at Middlebury.
Recruit, train, and solicit 40-60 volunteers for Reunion class agent work.
Collaborate extensively with annual giving, leadership gifts, planned gifts, principal gifts and the alumni office on both prospect engagement
Assist the Director in strategic planning, and communications.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of Middleburys priorities; be familiar with academic and co-curricular programs across all Middlebury entities.
General Responsibilities: Assist with Advancement events, including Reunion, Homecoming, Fall Family Weekend, ALC, Alumni College and Athletics Hall of Fame.
Contribute to ideas, feedback and support to Office projects where needed to ensure the overall success of the overall Annual Giving program.
Assist AG Director as necessary to address requests from the Executive Director of Annual Giving, VP of Advancement, Trustees and the President.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of computer systems, including relational database and Microsoft Office. Ability to motivate and manage volunteers. Must be highly collaborative and a skilled problem solver Excellent writing and public speaking skills. Strong analytical capability for monitoring and evaluating results. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as necessary. Must handle confidential materials with discretion. Travel and valid drivers license required. Advanced knowledge of current trends and technologies within the development/nonprofit fundraising field required Ability to prioritize multiple complex tasks with minimal guidance.
Experience: 2-5 years of experience in development or related field. Extensive volunteer management experience required. Proven team player; demonstrated leadership experience
