Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks a Retention Specialist whose primary function is to assist enrolled and prospective students within the Soar to Success Open Doors Program. This position will provide accessible and consistent support to students and work with them to develop meaningful educational and career goals. The Retention Specialist reports to the Director for Transitional Studies Operations.

Advise current and prospective Soar to Success Open Doors students regarding academic and vocational programs, admission procedures, degree requirements and transfer requirements;
Assist program participants to successfully transition into I-BEST and other career and educational programs;
Assist program participants in developing comprehensive educational plans and clarifying educational, career and life goals;
Collaborate with College staff and faculty to develop and implement innovative advising procedures, activities and objectives;
Design and deliver group advising sessions, orientation workshops and information sessions for Soar to Success Open Doors students;
Act as a liaison to campus student support services by assisting students to find services for which they are eligible; link students to appropriate campus and community services and resources;
Assist with development and placement of service learning opportunities for I-BEST and other career pathway cohorts as appropriate;
Assist in initiating appropriate interventions for students who are experiencing academic difficulties;
Provide retention and follow-up services to students to monitor and ensure student success;
Assist with the collection and reporting of data to College and agency systems;
Provide excellent customer service to current and prospective students, campus and community partners;
Contribute to the College's commitment to diversity by fostering a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation;
Participate in college and community meetings, as appropriate; and
Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, education or related field from a regionally accredited college or university; and
Two (2) years of experience working with diverse populations of varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds and abilities in an educational, nonprofit or social services setting.
Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
One (1) year of experience working with under prepared adults, first generation college students, and/or students with special needs;
Experience giving oral presentations in a group setting;
Columbia Basin College (CBC) serves the citizens of Benton and Franklin counties in Washington state with two-year associate degrees for transfer to a four-year university, and applied degrees for workforce employment. CBC also provides one-year certificates and basic skills for those pursuing a GED or high school diploma. CBC serves approximately 7,000-8,000 students each quarter.Columbia Basin College now offers bachelor degrees in Nursing, Project Management, Applied Management, Cyber Security, Information Technology, and Dental Hygiene. As a result of community needs, Columbia Basin College has recently opened our new state of the art Social Sciences and World Languages Center at the Pasco campus.In July 2017, CBC will open its second, four-story Health Science Center in Richland. In addition to training CBC healthcare professionals, the Wortman Medical Science Center will also be a functional medical clinic as part of Kadlec Regional Medical Center’s family medicine residency program.CBC will open a student housing facility in September.
