Commonwealth Academy is currently seeking a Director of Development and Institutional Advancement. The Director of Development and Institutional Advancement is a member of the Leadership Team and reports to the Head of School to oversee and manage all aspects of Commonwealth Academy’s Development program.
In close collaboration with the Assistant Head of School, the Director of Finance and Operations, the Director of Marketing and Communications, and the Director of Admissions, the Director of Development and Institutional Advancement develops and implements an innovative strategy to create a culture of philanthropy and cultivate donors.
The Director of Development and Institutional Advancement is responsible for all aspects of fundraising including the annual fund, major gifts, in-kind and matching donations, special events, grants, capital campaign efforts, and related communication.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
A minimum of five years of fundraising experience with nonprofit organizations. Experience with an independent school preferred.
Proven record of successful fundraising, particularly in regard to cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects and donors.
Excellent understanding of principles and techniques of development activities, including annual giving, major giving, planned giving, event planning, capital campaigns, marketing and communications, and grant procurement.
Experience in the design and implementation of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for prospects.
Demonstrated leadership with strategic, policy, and budget planning.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, networking, facilitation, and management skills; work both independently and within a team-oriented structure.
Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities.
Innovative and entrepreneurial approach to complex problem-solving situations.
Position requires some work in evenings and weekends.
Position requires confidentiality and professionalism in appearance, attitude and presentation.
