Theatre Director National High School Institute
Since 1931, the National High School Institute, a nonprofit organization has brought outstanding students to Northwestern University’s Evanston campus for intense educational experiences. Our Theatre Arts Division is an immersive, hands-on exploration into stage performance and production. A rigorous combination of classes and rehearsals provides students with a challenging and inspiring learning environment every day for 5-7 weeks. Working with professional theatre practitioners from around the country, students receive extraordinary training in a collaborative and supportive environment.
The National High School Institute at Northwestern University is seeking a qualified candidate to run its 7-week summer Theatre Institute on the Northwestern campus. This position is for the National High School Institute Theatre Division (the “Cherub” program) at Northwestern University, in Evanston. The ideal candidate is an experienced educator/artist with extensive administrative experience and management skills and a passion for working with teenagers.
This is part time work from January through May and full time work from June 25 – August 15, 2020.
Hire, supervise and monitor a staff of approximately 55
Evaluate student applications for the Institute
Structure and coordinate pre-summer and ongoing training for all staff
Assist in pre-summer Institute planning and organization
Lead and direct the day-to-day aspects of the program including
Monitor the health and safety of all students (130+) and staff (50+)
Manage overall program content and structure
Salary and Benefits:
Salary Commensurate with Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre, Theatre Education, Education or Arts Administration, or equivalent professional experience
5+ years of experience in teaching youth
2+years in arts or education management
Experience managing and supervising a team

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Master’s degree or higher in Theatre, Theatre Education, Education or Arts Administration
