Bartholomew County REMC, located in Columbus, Indiana is accepting applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer due to our current Chief Executive Officer retiring in the second quarter, 2020.
Bartholomew County REMC is a member-owned rural electric cooperative serving nearly 12,000 meters with a full time workforce of 35 and a 7-member board of directors. We are a nonprofit cooperative which means excess of revenue over expenses (margins) is treated as capital contributed by each member in proportion to the amount of electricity purchased. The four county service territory is located south of Indianapolis and includes Bartholomew, and parts of Jennings, Decatur and Jackson counties. Our load is roughly a 50/50 distribution of commercial/industrial and residential. This provides a number of opportunities for commercial load growth, along with the expected technical and rate design challenges.
Bartholomew County REMC receives its wholesale power from Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. and is also a member of NRECA and is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
The successful candidate will advise and assist the board of directors in the development of strategy, policies, budgets and contracts; develop and maintain staff and resources needed to carry out the mission of Bartholomew County REMC; oversee the day-to-day operations; and foster member relations. Five to seven years of management experience plus a Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in business administration or related field and experience in a cooperative business is desirable. The candidate will be a person of integrity and courage; possess exceptional leadership skills; and create a working environment consisting of teamwork, problem solving, results and development.
Bartholomew County is home to a varied mix of industries that support a diverse local economy. Greenwood and Indianapolis are approximately 40 miles north with many retail and dining center options for the south central part of the state as well. Columbus has a solid manufacturing base including many auto industry related businesses while continuing to support an active agricultural sector, as well as paper, fabricated metals, plastics and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Columbus is also home to world class nationally ranked modern architecture.
