Established and growing local nonprofit is seeking a Director of Finance to be a part of the leadership team. The Director of Finance reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for leading and managing a strong accounting team by providing management and leadership skills for the agency.
Responsibilities: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for the Executive Director and the Governing Board; oversees the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements and reports.
Report financial status by developing forecasts, reporting results, analyzing variances and developing improvements.
Oversee the day to day operations of accounting functions to ensure payables, receivables, payroll and cash flow function efficiently.
Oversee the accounting staff to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions.
Coordinate the development and monitoring of the annual budget and financial forecasts.
Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures for the organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the agency.
Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and report that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
Manage and oversee annual financial, pension, 403b, and workers’ compensation audits and ensure proper filing of tax returns.
Ensure that the effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field. CPA certification or MBA preferred. Non-Profit work experience preferred. Five+ years of work experience to include supervisor role required.
Personal Attributes: Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the agency. High level of integrity and dependability. Accuracy and attention to detail is a must. Must be a team player and have the ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.
Other Skills and Attributes: Non-profit experience along with knowledge of VA Medicaid Waiver regulations a plus. Experience with ADP payroll service and Traverse general ledger helpful.
