About the Department:
The Office of Alumni Relations, part of the Division of Advancement and Alumni Relations, works with the Alumni Association of George Mason University and strategic partners to engage alumni in the life of the university through mutually beneficial programs and services that facilitate involvement, investment, service, and advocacy.
The Alumni Outreach Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of alumni engagement prospects, securing face-to-face visits with alumni, and connecting with alumni for the purposes of discovery, engagement, and pipeline development. This position is responsible for conducting research on alumni engagement prospects and conducting outreach for the purposes of securing a visit and or phone call for discovery. This position is responsible for recording all communications and engagement activity related to alumni engagement prospects he/she comes in contact with. This position is also responsible for providing up-to-date biographical, interest and involvement data on all alumni engagement prospects. The Alumni Outreach Officer is also responsible for cultivating the alumnus/a and providing referral opportunities to further expand and enhance the alumnus' engagement with the Alumni Association, Schools and Colleges and the University overall. This position is also responsible for soliciting feedback for the purposes of bettering engagement opportunities for alumni across the university.
The Alumni Outreach Officer is part of a team of staff and volunteers dedicated to developing and strengthening lifelong relationships between alumni and George Mason University, with the goal of increasing their engagement with and in support of the university. This position helps to increase alumni engagement through direct outreach and personal visits. The Alumni Outreach Officer shares information about University goals and philanthropic needs.
This unique opportunity is ideal for a self-starter who has initiative, drive, and the ability to initiate contact and consistently pursue alumni leads. Candidates should also be curious and genuinely interested in hearing the stories of how Mason impacted the lives of alumni.
This position requires regular regional travel, periodic nationwide travel, and the ability to work night and weekend hours. The incumbent must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
Manage a portfolio of approximately 1200 alumni annually
Conduct a minimal of 200 face-to-face visits annually
Track, Refer, Follow-up, and Identify areas of Alumni Interest
Identify alumni prospects for volunteer and volunteer leadership opportunities
Refer alumni for furthered engagement and philanthropic opportunities to appropriate unit(s)
Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience
Professional experience in Higher Education, sales, customer service, marketing, nonprofit organizations, or recruitment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Professional demeanor and presentation skills;
Exceptional interpersonal skills;
Ability to work autonomously and take initiative;
Ability to work effectively with volunteers;
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment with a diverse constituency.
Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service;
Possess an understanding of, and the ability to, articulate the accomplishments and goals of a complex organization; and demonstrate sound judgment necessary for interacting with alumni, volunteers, donors, board leaders, faculty, and staff;
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite;
Experience with databases/programs;
Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience
Experience with iModules Encompass Enterprise or Constituent Management System; and
George Mason University alumnus/na
Some evening and weekends are required.
Use of personal transportation is required.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
