The Texas Center for Legal Ethics, a (501(c)(3) non-profit organization, produces programs and maintains information for Texas lawyers about ethics and professionalism. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Compliance and Operations (DCO), this position is responsible for promotion of subscriptions, donor programs, and major gifts. This position will assist in coordinating events, developing contact lists, and targeting potential donors. He/she will work closely with the DCO to promote the Texas Center for Legal Ethics’ mission and support development activities. Independent initiative and judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.
Implement annual and long-range subscription and donor development plan.
Cultivate relationships using best practices in donor stewardship.
Research new and existing fund sources/donors to maximize funds raised.
Prepare timely correspondence and documentation of meetings, research, etc.
Assist in developing plans and activities for subscriber engagement and retention, including print and online presence.
Identify opportunities to build awareness among various constituents, including potential donors and members of the legal community.
Prepare regular, detailed reports tracking progress on subscriptions, donors and communication for the DCO to disseminate information to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees.
Composing, designing and editing documents such as handouts, forms, presentations, and marketing materials.
Manage subscription database utilizing donor management software (Bloomerang) and a customized compliance database (Access), including running reports and performing complex mail merges.
Utilize website content management system to enter/extract information and make edits to the website.
Answer incoming calls as well as prepare written correspondence and other written materials. Accurate grammar and communication skills are required.
Schedule and track attendance for committee conference calls.
Open, sort and distribute mail with other staff, following internal control guidelines set forth by the auditor for receipt of checks, credit cards and cash.
Respond to inquiries (may require research), route incoming calls to appropriate departments, take messages and direct callers to appropriate staff. Coordinate telephone schedule with Content Management System/Database Specialist.
Assist with compliance mailings, warning letters, MCLE Compliance letters, and suspension letters with the Content Management System/Database Specialist.
Coordinate packets for Board of Trustees meetings and assist in compiling information and preparing packets for live events and courses.
Perform other responsibilities as required.
Bachelor’s degree required; five plus years of non-profit experience without degree may be considered.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with a wide variety of people.
Clear, concise, and effective written and oral communication skills, including proofreading, writing, and editing.
Experience coordinating projects, preparing correspondence, producing written reports and proposals, and making presentations.
Self-starter who initiates and pursues objectives in an organized and efficient manner and has the ability to work independently. Willingness to work evening and weekend hours when necessary.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
Ability to perform administrative duties as needed, such as typing and filing, database management, financial record keeping, answering phone calls, overseeing direct mailings and assisting with special projects.
Prior experience with non-profit development/membership, working knowledge of membership/fundraising software and website content management software desired. Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing (including complicated merges for multi-piece mailings), spreadsheets, database, and presentation software.
