Day One is a well-established nonprofit organization and is Maine’s leading agency dealing with adolescent substance use and mental health issues.
We have two full-time positions available for an experienced Master’s level counselor with LCSW licensure to join our team of professional colleagues at two locations. This position provides substance use and mental health counseling, including assessment, treatment planning, group counseling, individual counseling and family counseling. Maintains appropriate client record, including documentation, and billing/coding requirements. Assesses for other needs and makes referrals as appropriate to community resources that support overall wellness and recovery. Master’s degree and licensure required to provide both mental health and substance use counseling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as primary therapist conducting substance use assessments; provide individual, group, and family counseling to clients in recovery, ages 13-18; maintain all clinical records in accordance with agency, licensing, and clinical standards. Participate in clinical supervision, training and staff meetings; work collaboratively with colleagues and facility staff, other contracted services staff, and with other Day One staff, to further Day One's mission and effectively serve clients. Must display utmost respect for clients and their families in all interactions. Strictly adhere to all Day One, Federal and State policies and procedures regarding the confidentiality of client, employee and Agency information. Participate in rotating shift coverage, which may include evenings, week-end, holidays and daytime hours. Take necessary steps to maintain the therapeutic milieu of the residence. This position is full-time during the day; however, requires the ability to work flexible hours, including occasionally scheduled early evening, holiday or week-end hours in order to meet the needs of our clients.
Physical Environment/Location:These two positions are located at our residential facilities as follows:
One position is located at our residence at 934 Intervale Rd. in New Gloucester, Maine; the other position is located at 14 Wandrup Dr. in Fairfield, Maine. Some travel is required to other Day One locations as well as to outside events.

Experience working with and counseling adolescent substance using clients. Experience conducting assessments and providing individual, family and group substance use counseling. Minimum two years of direct experience working with substance use issues and adolescents. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Preference will be given to candidates with adolescent residential experience, and those with strong leadership qualities.
Master’s degree with relevant training experience working with and counseling adolescents with substance use issues. LCSW and CCS preferred; will consider LMSW-cc.
Additional Salary Information: Bonus of $1,000. $500 following introductory period and $500 following six months.
